The Wall

As part of my vacation this year I was very fortunate to be able to spend some time at our wonderful facility in Le Mans, meeting many friends and colleagues. Also, the opportunity to visit the fantastic Plein Champ festival too! Thank you especially to Thierry….

    • only a maniac would spend their holidays by taking their family to work… but that’s what I love about it! How did the family like it?
Do they have a better understanding of what it is you do now?

    • Fabulous to take your family to the Le Mans site….that’s pride in action 😃

    • In English we call it a Busman’s holiday Jasper! Thierry, and the whole site was wonderful Jane. The boys and Sarah were really fascinated to see everything from the ‘artisanal’ milling of oil paints right through to robots delivering supplies around the site.

July 21st, 2024 marked 1,000 days without a lost time incident (LTI) at DC7.

So that means we haven’t had an LTI since October 25th, 2021.

Some of the Initiatives that helped us reach this incredible milestone include:

World Health & Safety Day held at the site – Lots of fun and games to highlight various H&S risks and issues.

Rotate staff members to join the monthly H&S meetings/inspections – Lots of new insights and ideas thanks to this one.

Weekly supervisor safety walks – To make sure we’re not missing risks and opportunities outside of the monthly meetings.

5S boards – Everything in its place and a place for everything, signed and checked daily.

Signage and H&S messages on monitors – It’s important to highlight any dangers, risks and rules to all who work at and visit the site.

H&S questionnaire and feedback – Great chance for people to share their honest thoughts and ideas in and for a safe environment.

Annual review of all risk assessments – Not the most fun job at the site but definitely one of the most important.

Periodic fire drills – Repeat a task enough times so that if an evacuation is necessary it can be performed naturally, quickly and with order.

E-learning – A great way to ensure staff are given as much information as possible from day 1 and periodically thereafter.

Safety inspections on all plant and machinery – Both internal and external checks are carried out.

Most importantly, you need to have a strong Health & Safety culture and I am very proud that this is exactly what we do have here at Kiddy. Everybody takes it seriously and looks out for one another. Health & Safety is more than ticking a box, it’s about respecting each other, yourselves and the environment you’re working in. You can have the best H&S team in the world (and Sean does a great job managing it here) but without the collective buy in it would all be for nothing.

Thank you team, 1,000 days is a great achievement, enjoy your celebratory buffet lunch and let’s look forward to the next 1,000 days LTI free…Very well done!!!

    • Love to see it, Bravo team Kidderminster!

    • Fantastic thanks for sharing!

    • Well Done !!!!!

    • That is an amazing achievement. Well done to all in Kiddy!

    • Great achievement, well done to the fantastic Kiddy team!

    • Well done Team Kiddi….this is a wonderful achievement and it takes the support and diligence of every single employee to show a mindset committed to health and safety 🏅

    • Absolutely outstanding result of the safety culture in kidderminster, empowered by everyone in the management team but also the teams in the warehouse. A good way to prove that acting towards safety can provide measurable good results. A big high five to all of you for this performance…time now to start a new count up to go once again toward 1000 days without any LTI…

    • This is amazing! Well done KD! Thank you for sharing. This paragraph here is so incredibly poignant and essential to having a safe workplace.

      Brilliant!

    • To Shane and the entire team at the UK Distribution Centre, super congratulations to you all. 1,000 days+ with zero LTI. This is such a significant achievement that reflects the culture, the focus, the attention to detail and processes that have been successfully embraced by each and every one of you. Please continue to keep you, your colleagues, visitors and the overall site a safe place to be. Great work and well done. Best, Anthony

    • Fantastic! Keep it going!!!

It’s that time of year again when we celebrate humanity’s impressive knack for depleting resources faster than the planet can replenish them. #Earthovershootday

The one positive is that we haven’t got any worse….than last year

    • wouldn’t it be fun to make a statement next year? For example filling our tubes with only 34% of paint (as that’s how much we could actually manufacture according to overshoot day). Or is this one of my worse ideas?
I guess what I’m saying is that we have the option to read this and say to each other ‘it’s really bad, isn’t it’, or to actually do something about it?
      What does everybody think?

      • I would say we are on a pathway of doing something about it, NPD with biobased resin, investment in Kidderminster with solar panels, further investment in Le Mans decarbonisation plans, the VCM model roll out, I guess the point of this post is putting the ‘why’ in to our sustainability ambitions. But in answer to your question, yes it would be good to be bolder and maybe communicate what we are doing to #movethedate.

        • Thanks Ajita! You are very right: we have some really good initiatives. But impatient as I am… I am obviously thinking bigger and bolder.
I also found it interesting to see in the first graph that the trend was reversed in the early 1980’s. What happened there and why didn’t we continue? If we’ve done it once… it can be done again. And I am happy to be part of it where/if I can!

I am delighted to announce our new compliance officer Jon Oram has successfully passed his IOSH training.

When we announced at the start of the year we needed to recruit a new compliance officer, Jon stepped forward. Jon has been a valued member of the Snazaroo team for over 12 years as a General Operative.

Jon has been dedicated to completing his training, is very proactive in sourcing new health and safety equipment and identifying areas of improvement around the site.

Jon – a big thank you for taking on this role and keeping the team safe.

Please keep up the great work!
