The Wall 1 year, 9 months agoAnother 2 of our Kidderminster team have used some of their community hours to visit the Forest Dog Rescue to provide some exercise and love for the dogs at the shelter, which is now at capacity and unable to take in anymore dogs while homes are found for the existing residents. You can see from the photos below just how much the dogs enjoy their walks and love.
Not only do the dogs benefit but the sense of wellbeing, both physical and mental is of great personal strength, the enthusiasm and pleasure when teams come back from taking part is amazing. Important too, to connect with the local community. Sometimes it may feel difficult to justify leaving the workplace because we’re too busy or have deadlines to meet but at Kidderminster, to make it more manageable we break the allowance into hours, so say for litter picking groups can pop out locally wearing their Colart hi vis for an hour or 2 while the dog walking is a 2 to 3 hour session, including travel. The company impact report states that the target for 2025 is to increase to 5,000 community days and at Kidderminster we hope to see all staff on site using their hours to help achieve the company goal. We’d love to know how other sites encourage the uptake of community hours.

The Wall 1 year, 9 months agoQuite recently, with the help of one smart guy, I realised that I still pay too little attention to the positive aspects of our work. One of the conclusions of our conversation was that giving praise is still vastly undervalued.
I would therefore like to use the opportunity of the end of the first half of this year to start changing that.
Well, in the small part of the world that my small team and I are responsible for, we have had a very positive first half of 2024.
Sales performance is slightly better than the assumptions made for FC1, around 4.5%. The gross margin has also reached targeted level. If we add to this the results of the 2 challenging Swedish CFGs, it is still good. Which was not so obvious at the beginning of the year.
Not everything is going according to plan – of course.
2 big retailers: Empik and Clas Ohlson are struggling with a significant decline in footfall and thus sales. However, we are working on implementing plans to minimise the risk of sales loss.
The whole team: Dominik, Dora, Irek & Vlad (with my modest contribution) are working to find new opportunities & to stay ahead of the competition.
I would also very much like to thank everyone in the Sabine’s team. Without you, our operation would not have a chance of success.
Support from the Marketing department – invaluable – Mathilde – you rock.
The great commitment of the team Le Mans cannot be underestimated either. June, our orders were processed at lightning speed, which is also why we were able to make up some of the loses we faced in previous months.
So, simply put – many thanks to everyone involved!
And congratulations to us on achieving our H1 plan.
We still have even more challenging 2nd half of the year ahead of us.
I am optimistic.
Regards.

Love this post Jakub!
Well done to you and your team and keep up the positive “can do” approach – it’s about team-work, finding solutions and acting on the plans. Whether they are right or wrong we can learn from them, adjust and improve for next time.
As the Chairman of Hoganas (our sister company) said at the recent Lindengroup conference, it’s the optimists who are brave and make the difference!
Keep it up 😃… -

Millions of tonnes of clothing, shoes and other textiles end up in landfill every year because very little is sent for recycling .
“The current fashion system uses high volumes of non-renewable resources, including petroleum, extracted to produce clothes that are often used only for a short period of time, after which the materials are largely lost to landfill or incineration. “This system puts pressure on valuable resources such as water, pollutes the environment and degrades ecosystems in addition to creating societal impacts on a global scale.” There are good reasons to seek out alternatives to chucking clothes in the bin – globally the fashion industry is responsible for 10% of all greenhouse gas emissions, with textile production alone is estimated to release 1.2 billion tonnes of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere every year. Vast amounts of water are also needed to produce the clothes we wear too and the fashion industry is responsible for 20% of global waste water. At the same time we are buying more clothes than ever – the average consumer now buys 60% more clothing than they did 15 years ago. More than two tonnes of clothing are bought each minute in the UK, more than any other country in Europe. Globally, around 56 million tonnes of clothing are bought each year, and this is expected to rise to 93 million tonnes by 2030 and 160 million tonnes by 2050.
"Reuse. Recycle. Rethink — your clothes deserve a second life, not a landfill."
