    So lovely making my commute to work today and see soooo many people dressed up and out celebrating Eid.   And … what is Eid?

    The festival of Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, is celebrated all over the world. Muslims observe Ramadan by reading the Qur’an, emphasizing charity (zakat), abstaining from food and drink during daylight hours, and concentrating on prayer and study to increase their taqwa, or sacred consciousness. Observation of Ramadan is one of the five pillars of Islam.

    Eid al-Fitr, often shortened to “Eid,” is a joyous celebration traditionally lasting three days. Muslims mark the occasion with private and community events such as communal prayer (salat), parties, preparing and eating special foods, giving gifts, wearing new clothes, and visiting friends and family. A few days before Eid al-Fitr, Muslims make donations of food to the poor—sadaqah al-fitr (charity of fast-breaking)—so that all may mark the end of fasting with a special meal for the holiday.

    A few of us from the NA team were out yesterday to run a local 10k called the Cherry Blossom 10k in a beautiful park not far from Newark, NJ. @megan.pontier @eric.villanueva @allison.corrigan and I decided we’d let Eric have this one with him coming in first for the colart crew 🙂

    1.5 Million € has been raised through bibs and given to 250 charity for the 2024 Paris Marathon. Very grateful to have been part of this event and to run my first Marathon.  https://www.instagram.com/p/C5fSidCMhFp/

    I’ve read that Marathons are for those who Dare and it reminds me of the new Lefranc Bourgeois manifesto “Dare to Paint” ; we can also Dare to Run 😉

      Amazing effort Damien, well done! Love the combination of taglines too… I imagine the route passed near Charbonnel? imagine how cool a multi-coloured chalk pit to run through (set up by L&B) would be to decorate the roads with the runners footprints (I’d suggest paint but it’d likely cause a H&S disaster for the runners, and a mass clean-up for the Parisian street teams). I think you could be onto a L&B Paris Marathon partnership promo idea combining those two concepts! …

Creating Impact Tip
Millions of tonnes of clothing, shoes and other textiles end up in landfill every year because very little is sent for recycling .

“The current fashion system uses high volumes of non-renewable resources, including petroleum, extracted to produce clothes that are often used only for a short period of time, after which the materials are largely lost to landfill or incineration. “This system puts pressure on valuable resources such as water, pollutes the environment and degrades ecosystems in addition to creating societal impacts on a global scale.” There are good reasons to seek out alternatives to chucking clothes in the bin – globally the fashion industry is responsible for 10% of all greenhouse gas emissions, with textile production alone is estimated to release 1.2 billion tonnes of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere every year. Vast amounts of water are also needed to produce the clothes we wear too and the fashion industry is responsible for 20% of global waste water.  At the same time we are buying more clothes than ever – the average consumer now buys 60% more clothing than they did 15 years ago. More than two tonnes of clothing are bought each minute in the UK, more than any other country in Europe. Globally, around 56 million tonnes of clothing are bought each year, and this is expected to rise to 93 million tonnes by 2030 and 160 million tonnes by 2050.
