The Wall 2 years, 10 months agoLast week we were invited to the new Royal Watercolour Society gallery situated next door to the National Gallery. A fantastic location home to three gallerie, all of which focus on contemporary watercolour. Curator of this years Royal Academy summer show, David Remfry is a member, so it is very relevant to a wide audience of both artists who use watercolour, as well as watercolourists. Being invited to partner with retailer Cass art in order to bring to life the story of watercolour, was a wonderful way to celebrate this new space and meet its members. Huge thanks to Mark Cann who showcased the integrity of our making, as well as being able to talk about the history and legacy that informs us today. Why was this was important? It was because not only did it endorse our credibility as watercolour paint makers, but we were able to show the diversity in gouaches introducing also Liquitex gouache to this audience. Cass staff also demonstrated the potential of our materials and drove traffic specifically to our brands in their stores demonstrating our materials.

This is great, thank you for sharing Steph…
-
Third image is great – can you reference the artist please Steph? Really into the way they’ve played with reflective surfaces and shadows to present a relatively mundane scene (reflected against a convex object?) into a distorted expression of colour and form. I could lose myself in the bottom left-side of the image.…
-
Brilliant description, it is a really beautiful piece by RWS member Olwen Jones. The great thing about this space is it is about artists who use watercolour, not just watercolourists.
…-
Thanks Steph. I had to shorten my description… as I say I could get lost in this for a long time… Yeah it’s challenged my perceptions on watercolour, I wasn’t the biggest fan when I painted, but this has made me re-think this. Thanks for sharing

Such a great setting to showcase how contemporary watercolour can be and extending that out to other water-based media! Great work as always Steph, thank you and well done. …

The Wall 2 years, 10 months agoBy ensuring our couriers, DPD, are aligned with our sustainability ambitions in Colart UK, together we have managed to save over 1,661 kg of CO2 . This has been achieved by delivering 6,016 Colart orders on all-electric vehicles since 2022, which is equivalent to planting 7 trees. What great results can be made by choosing conscientious suppliers who subscribe to sustainable practices.
Attached are our digital certificates which we are proud to share with you.

This is so positive, and highlights how we can begin to form a much healthier supply chain if we factor sustainability into the conversation when choosing partners.…

The Wall 2 years, 10 months agoWhen I was in Berlin last weekend I was fascinated by this stall of cyanotyope process pictures. Watercolour paper, a solution of iron salts and a dried plant, feather or other item to creative a ‘negative’ image. A process invented in 1840 by Sir John Herschel in England. No two images ever quite the same.
-
It creates the most evocative images, doesn’t it? Another great alternative photography method is the pinhole camera, which I loved using. But I think the depth of blue in cyanotype puts them on a whole other level.…
-
Yes Claire, my photo really doesn’t do justice to both the depth of blue but also the beautiful, almost ghost like, images.…

Martyn Symes replied 2 years, 10 months ago
They look amazing.…

Millions of tonnes of clothing, shoes and other textiles end up in landfill every year because very little is sent for recycling .
“The current fashion system uses high volumes of non-renewable resources, including petroleum, extracted to produce clothes that are often used only for a short period of time, after which the materials are largely lost to landfill or incineration. “This system puts pressure on valuable resources such as water, pollutes the environment and degrades ecosystems in addition to creating societal impacts on a global scale.” There are good reasons to seek out alternatives to chucking clothes in the bin – globally the fashion industry is responsible for 10% of all greenhouse gas emissions, with textile production alone is estimated to release 1.2 billion tonnes of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere every year. Vast amounts of water are also needed to produce the clothes we wear too and the fashion industry is responsible for 20% of global waste water. At the same time we are buying more clothes than ever – the average consumer now buys 60% more clothing than they did 15 years ago. More than two tonnes of clothing are bought each minute in the UK, more than any other country in Europe. Globally, around 56 million tonnes of clothing are bought each year, and this is expected to rise to 93 million tonnes by 2030 and 160 million tonnes by 2050.
"Reuse. Recycle. Rethink — your clothes deserve a second life, not a landfill."
