The Wall 3 years, 1 month agoThis week was the Colour and Poetry symposium which reaches around 600 participants inviting artists, academics and alumni from the UCL and partnering universities from all over the world. It is exciting to have all of our brands featured in this context, not just on the poster but also in the workshops and presentations. In addition, we found our brands referenced on the presentations of others, shown here in these images; this is because of their importance in the history of colour, lightfastness and innovation. Huge shout to @mark.cann@colart.com for talking about the science and recent innovations of our brands, in response to their legacies; this provided me with an opportunity to talk about single pigment granular colours and their capacity to supergranulate when mixed. We have already been invited to participate in next years symposium.

The Wall 3 years, 1 month agoHIDDEN IDENTITIES by Manyi Takor, BA Fine Art
Manyi Takor’s amazing “Hidden Identities” mural has now been installed at our Kidderminster site, with thanks to all who helped make this happen. The Big Walls and Windows Project, supported by @liquitexofficial and @cassart1984 was on show in the Window Galleries until 20 February 2022 and we are now proudly displaying Hidden Identities in Colart’s Kidderminster warehouse. The canvas is 12.5m and gave us some practical consideration as it is hanging high on a warehouse wall, but all was well worthwhile. The photos show the installation and our colleagues enjoying the artwork.
In Manyi’s own words, “Working on this massive scale has been invaluable. From the simple things like figuring out how much paint you need or technically how to hang up a 12.5m canvas. But also, the way you articulate certain ideas, composition and symbolism at that different scale. “
— Manyi Takor, first-year BA Fine Art student
We hope to capitalise on the installation by sharing the story and experience with aspiring local art students and others.

The Wall 3 years, 1 month agoTEAM HEALTH CHECKS
Our local NHS were offering health checks for people who have not had cause to see a doctor in the last 5 years. Our wonderful well-being team arranged for an NHS nurse to come on site and carryout the FREE health checks.
Over the course of two weeks the nurse carried out several checks; some of the team had not seen a doctor or nurse in over 10+ years. Those who did take up this opportunity were full of positivity and said it gave them peace of mind.
The nurse checked for; blood pressure, blood glucose, cholesterol, lifestyle assessments, personal and family history, healthy weight calculation, assessing the risk of developing stroke, heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and kidney disease over the next ten years.
We would like to thank our well-being team and NHS Somerset for providing this on-site service for our team.
We would highly recommend taking the NHS up on this FREE service. For more information visit https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/nhs-health-check/

Millions of tonnes of clothing, shoes and other textiles end up in landfill every year because very little is sent for recycling .
“The current fashion system uses high volumes of non-renewable resources, including petroleum, extracted to produce clothes that are often used only for a short period of time, after which the materials are largely lost to landfill or incineration. “This system puts pressure on valuable resources such as water, pollutes the environment and degrades ecosystems in addition to creating societal impacts on a global scale.” There are good reasons to seek out alternatives to chucking clothes in the bin – globally the fashion industry is responsible for 10% of all greenhouse gas emissions, with textile production alone is estimated to release 1.2 billion tonnes of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere every year. Vast amounts of water are also needed to produce the clothes we wear too and the fashion industry is responsible for 20% of global waste water. At the same time we are buying more clothes than ever – the average consumer now buys 60% more clothing than they did 15 years ago. More than two tonnes of clothing are bought each minute in the UK, more than any other country in Europe. Globally, around 56 million tonnes of clothing are bought each year, and this is expected to rise to 93 million tonnes by 2030 and 160 million tonnes by 2050.
"Reuse. Recycle. Rethink — your clothes deserve a second life, not a landfill."
