The Wall 3 years, 2 months agoAt Colart in France, transportation is our N°1 Carbon emission issuer (road freight 24% + ocean freight 26% + airfreight 2% = 52%)
Colart Europe / Colart Le Mans has commited to a 5% reduction in 2023, and will focus on being 100% Carbon neutral by 2030. By joining FRET 21 program, we will implement the following lines of actions :
- Loading optimization :pallet optimization, delivery conditions, reduction of empty routes, consolidation of goods, …
- Travelled distance :sites situation, supplier sourcing,…
- Transportation modes :selection & optimization of trucks, analysis of other shipping methods,…
- Sustainable purchasing :carrier’s choice, certifications, ….
FRET 21 is a governmental partnership between French Ministry of Transport, Agency of Ecological transition and shipper’s associations, focused on sustainability. This accreditation will give us access to sophisticated tools & technical supports for calculating & reducing our carbon footprint.

The Wall 3 years, 2 months agoAs part of our sustainable program, procurement team studied various sustainable solutions for our Ocean shipments in order to contribute an intensive reduction of our CO2 emissions.
We started by enrollement into GEODIS GREEN program in November & December 2022, to ensure 100% CO2 neutral shipments from France to the US.
In 2023, we still continue our contribution by booking of 150 teu’s (equivalent 75 containers 40’) for our trade lanes from China to France for 2023, using BIOFUEL 2nd generation. This new BIOFUEL generation is produced by modern processes from organic matter or biomass, such as corn or sugar, vegetable oils or waste feedstocks, mainly sourced from used cooking oil. Since it is a recycled waste product, it is even more sustainable, non-toxic, biodegradable and renewable.
It is a 1st step; We will keep an eye on all new technologies that could make Colart more sustainable in its inbound/outbound shipments all over the world !

The Wall 3 years, 2 months agoColart received high praise from director, Jamie Gaskin at Tindall’s of Cambridge this week. Tindall’s had agreed to extend their Promarker offering to the full 210 spectrum and therefore taking in the new versatile & flexible CTU merchandising.
Because we have big boots on our company estate cars, I was able to assemble the units at home and deliver in to store virtually complete. This impressed Jamie and store manager, Stephen as it meant minimised customer disruption, saved my client time and enabled me to have a productive meeting with them.
From the picture you can see there are now spaces for both new lines and from excellent sell through on existing lines. They have raised an order for the shortfall.
Also they were so impressed with the project that they have agreed to extend their Promarker Brush spectrum to the full range and therefore taking in a further CTU to stand along side the Promarker offering. This gives us increased space within the marker category, increasing listings!
Tindall’s achieved a more than commendable 35.78% increase year on year in 2022 with Colart.
Winsor & Newton had a 94.72% share. of which Watercolour represented 21.10% and Graphic Markers had a remarkable 6.95% share.
Excellent Customer Satisfaction!

Congratulations Adrian on a terrific result. Always encouraging to see sales growth as well as increased product in store. Therefore, greater representation of the brand and all achieved with minimal disruption, no wonder your customer was so happy with all of your efforts. Also, a great idea to build the units prior to the store visit and deliver them already assembled, thank goodness for the extra space in your company car.…

It’s great to hear that Jamie Gaskin, the director, praised Colart for the recent project. It’s clearly had a positive impact, with both new lines and excellent sell-through on existing lines resulting in a raised order for the shortfall. Furthermore, the fact that Tindall’s has agreed to extend their Promarker Brush spectrum to the full range, and therefore taking in a further CTU to stand alongside the Promarker offering, is a great win for Colart. Well done, it’s a great result and a testament to you and your perseverance in how you have been able to turn this account around.…

The Wall 3 years, 2 months agoPancake Day – A boost to our team moral
What can I say but we are a food driven well-being team. There is no better bonding than cooking, eating and cleaning together as one big family.
Today our fabulous well-being team organised a pancake lunch with freshly made pancakes, accompanied with fruit and toppings. Many people played a part in setting up, buying the supplies, cooking, cleaning etc, it really is a team effort, even the managers get stuck into the washing up!
This was a lovely event to bring everyone together and we would like to thank everyone involved in making it happen. I personally love having the chance to get involved and see the rest of the team I don’t normally see day to day.
Well done team!

The Wall 3 years, 2 months agoMany of you will have seen the television adaptation of the Charlie Mackesy book ‘The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse’ at Christmas. A beautifully drawn and animated film that told a story of friendship and determination. The reason for my post is that Charlie was interviewed on ITV News at 10 this week, in his home studio and as you can see from the photo, he clearly uses a lot of W&N drawing ink for his sketches.

Millions of tonnes of clothing, shoes and other textiles end up in landfill every year because very little is sent for recycling .
“The current fashion system uses high volumes of non-renewable resources, including petroleum, extracted to produce clothes that are often used only for a short period of time, after which the materials are largely lost to landfill or incineration. “This system puts pressure on valuable resources such as water, pollutes the environment and degrades ecosystems in addition to creating societal impacts on a global scale.” There are good reasons to seek out alternatives to chucking clothes in the bin – globally the fashion industry is responsible for 10% of all greenhouse gas emissions, with textile production alone is estimated to release 1.2 billion tonnes of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere every year. Vast amounts of water are also needed to produce the clothes we wear too and the fashion industry is responsible for 20% of global waste water. At the same time we are buying more clothes than ever – the average consumer now buys 60% more clothing than they did 15 years ago. More than two tonnes of clothing are bought each minute in the UK, more than any other country in Europe. Globally, around 56 million tonnes of clothing are bought each year, and this is expected to rise to 93 million tonnes by 2030 and 160 million tonnes by 2050.
"Reuse. Recycle. Rethink — your clothes deserve a second life, not a landfill."

great start! This is clearly a difficult challenge as products get manufactured (and sold) all around the globe, but indeed relevant to calculate transport (and other sustainability KPI’s) into the cost of a product. …
