The Wall 3 years, 2 months agoIt’s important to me that we think about art making in addition to art materials and in that spirit I thought I’d share some ideas and hopefully find out what you all think on the subject.
I often hear talk of what’s trending, and this is a bit of a touchy word for me because as an artist I want to be authentic rather than “trendy”.ย That said, I searched “what art is trending in 2023” for kicks and the paragraph at the bottom is what popped up.ย And then I realized that my most recent painting, seen here, has a more earthly palette than most of my other paintings.ย So maybe I’m trendy and didn’t even know it but at least I’m not trying to be.ย Or should being trendy even be a concern for an artist?ย These are conversations that don’t always have an answer but I’d love to hear your thoughts on the subject if you’d like to share.
Minimalist, earthy-toned palettes are gaining popularity in 2023 as they imitate the calmness and serenity we feel when experiencing nature or the outside world. Since bright, maximalist color palettes can be visually overwhelming to some people, artists are taking a less-is-more approach to styling in 2023.ย

Some super ideas have been done in 2022 thanks to our employees. Good to reward them!
And a thought for Carole who brilliantly lead this local “think tank”.

Yes, a very good moment together to see how many good ideas we can have to improve our process ! a no end continous improvement loop .…

congratulations to the winners and as Vincent says, a big thank you to every single person who submitted an idea to the Ideas Box. Every single one counts 👏👏👏…

great effort for rewarding good ideas. As always, great ideas can come from anyone and everywhere in the organization, all it takes is people being creative and talking to each other. Well done to everyone raising their idea in 2022 and congratulations to those who were selected ‘best’ idea (there are usually no bad ideas, other than ordering that last round in the pub on Saturday night….)…

The Wall 3 years, 2 months agoOn February 16th, 1988, Brett Soley began working as a Print Finisher for Oasis Arts and Craft Products in their print department. He carried out the last part of the printing process, trimming the finished boards for the paint by numbers and scraper foils before their transfer to the assembly department. Brett gained his license to operate a forklift truck as part of this role.
In 1999, Colart acquired Oasis Arts and Crafts. Soon after that, Brett moved into the warehouse department of the new distribution centre, where he joined the order fulfilment team. Brett’s main roles included picking and packing customer orders and merchandising equipment. In 2011, following the closure of the Wealdstone Site, Brett supported the engineering team in relocating the carousel picking system. This system became, and continues to be, a crucial part of the UK Distribution Centre operation.
In 2020, Brett achieved his license to operate a VNA (very narrow aisle) truck and has been an essential part of the high-bay storage/goods inward team ever since, ensuring stock transferals, rotation and inventory controls are perpetuated to ensure picking accuracy and efficiency within the warehouse is maintained. Brett’s next development challenge is to be trained as the UK DC’s local portable appliance tester (PAT) so that he can support the Maintenance and Health & Safety teams at the site.
Thank you, Brett, for your 35 years of dedicated service.

Millions of tonnes of clothing, shoes and other textiles end up in landfill every year because very little is sent for recycling .
“The current fashion system uses high volumes of non-renewable resources, including petroleum, extracted to produce clothes that are often used only for a short period of time, after which the materials are largely lost to landfill or incineration. “This system puts pressure on valuable resources such as water, pollutes the environment and degrades ecosystems in addition to creating societal impacts on a global scale.” There are good reasons to seek out alternatives to chucking clothes in the bin – globally the fashion industry is responsible for 10% of all greenhouse gas emissions, with textile production alone is estimated to release 1.2 billion tonnes of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere every year. Vast amounts of water are also needed to produce the clothes we wear too and the fashion industry is responsible for 20% of global waste water. At the same time we are buying more clothes than ever – the average consumer now buys 60% more clothing than they did 15 years ago. More than two tonnes of clothing are bought each minute in the UK, more than any other country in Europe. Globally, around 56 million tonnes of clothing are bought each year, and this is expected to rise to 93 million tonnes by 2030 and 160 million tonnes by 2050.
"Reuse. Recycle. Rethink — your clothes deserve a second life, not a landfill."

This is aligned with “sober” social trends and may reflect a search for peaceful essentiality and deep connection to nature… Personally as a hobbyist, I prefer to paint with no more than 3-5 colors + white, I feel using too many colors compromises harmony and my painting gets messy… …
That’s very interesting Frederique. I do agree with you about a limited palette. Too many colors can create chaos if one is not careful.…
Love your work as ever Jimmy !…
Aw, thanks Gail!…
