The Wall 3 years, 3 months ago🇬🇧 Pleasure for LB team to host 2023 first live drawing workshop by Lefranc Bourgeois dedicated to the art of movement with Michel Costiou around our ballet friend Sylvaine Soldano who performed gracefully several variations as Nikyia (la Bayadere) and Carmen at Charbonnel last Thursday. We could not dream of a more wonderful evening to celebrate the end of Michel Costiou’s exhibition dedicated to the art of movement. Many thanks to all participants for their enthusiasm and congrats to Lefranc Bourgeois team for a flawless event. We look forward to the opening of our next exhibition “Le corps et l’amour” this Thursday, that will present LB selection of artworks by students from Lyon Emile Cohl School for sale until March.

The Wall 3 years, 3 months agoHi Colart Team, I wrote you few weeks ago suggesting you a \”green\” resolution for the new year: the 5R. After writing it, I have been thinking about it, and one of my resolution for the new year is to alert/inform/get informed on this considerable challenge to keep our planet socially and environnementally livable for our children. So today I would like to share with you some nice way to get informed on these topics with podcasts. These media are clearly engaged, but it is important to get a diversity of point of view, besides you can pick the subject that interest you in priority.
For both French and English speakers there is: Time to shift (some of them are available in English)
For the english speakers: (list non exhaustive of course, maybe you also have suggestions)
- The Climate question (from the BBC) https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/w13xtvb6/episodes/downloads
- How to save a planet (from Alex Blumberg et Ayana Elizabeth Johnson) available on Spotify
- Green Wave: small format of 15 minutes dealing with many society subjects under the climate aspect https://www.greeneuropeanjournal.eu/all-podcasts/
Wishing you a nice listening! En vous souhaitant une bonne écoute!

The Wall 3 years, 3 months agoFor way back Wednesday let’s jump to Broadway, NYC in the 1950’s to the offices of Winsor & Newton. These were the days of printing plates used in advertising, like this one from our archives. I can’t help but wish I could walk the streets just to see the fashion and automobiles of the day!

The Wall 3 years, 3 months agoFurther the start of Edding distribution in North America, we have just concluded a new distribution agreement with Edding for France.
From beginning of April 2023, Colart should start selling in fine arts and craft channels the creative markers ranges of Edding, which is currently acting in France only in B2B channels.
We had the opportunity some days ago, to set up with Jasper, a training day for the whole French sales and marketing team animated by Edding France managers. This business development opportunity will enhance Colart position in graphic and creative markets where we already lead with Winsor & Newton offer. Edding ranges are fully complementary to ours, and it will therefore be an interesting growth possibility inspite a very competitive and busy market.
Thanks to all the ones who made this possible!

The Wall 3 years, 3 months agoThe 1863 Winsor & Newton Sketching easel in Deal Wood. What is Deal Wood, you ask?
Deal was an archaic UK and US unit of volume used to measure wood. In the late 18th and early 19th centuries, a deal originally referred to a wooden board between 12 and 14 feet long that was traded as a maritime commodity. So, there’s your trivia for the day.
-
Keep them coming Jimmy…..quite fascinating.
I was amazed when I first moved to the USA how many ‘old’ measures are still in common use. We went and picked a peck of apples (we did not pick a peck of peppers!) as well as ordering our logs for the fire by the cord….…
-
I also wonder Jimmy, based on your explanation, if there is any original connection with Deal in Kent – registered in the Domesday Book of 1086 and later one of the ‘Limbs’ to the Cinque Portes.…

Jimmy Leslie replied 3 years, 3 months ago
Hmmm…there very may be. That’s the fun of us having a brand with rich archives; you can;t help but be curious and continue to learn.…

Ah Jimmy we need to link you up with Ian Garrett (a previous R&D director) who retired many years ago – he paid the Hub a visit this week and we were in awe of his anecdotes! Stefano is on the case to collect as many insights from Ian as possible (to reinforce our consumer query responses) and I’m sure you would have hours of fun discussing what Ian knows from the past!!! We’ll keep you in the loop…

Millions of tonnes of clothing, shoes and other textiles end up in landfill every year because very little is sent for recycling .
“The current fashion system uses high volumes of non-renewable resources, including petroleum, extracted to produce clothes that are often used only for a short period of time, after which the materials are largely lost to landfill or incineration. “This system puts pressure on valuable resources such as water, pollutes the environment and degrades ecosystems in addition to creating societal impacts on a global scale.” There are good reasons to seek out alternatives to chucking clothes in the bin – globally the fashion industry is responsible for 10% of all greenhouse gas emissions, with textile production alone is estimated to release 1.2 billion tonnes of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere every year. Vast amounts of water are also needed to produce the clothes we wear too and the fashion industry is responsible for 20% of global waste water. At the same time we are buying more clothes than ever – the average consumer now buys 60% more clothing than they did 15 years ago. More than two tonnes of clothing are bought each minute in the UK, more than any other country in Europe. Globally, around 56 million tonnes of clothing are bought each year, and this is expected to rise to 93 million tonnes by 2030 and 160 million tonnes by 2050.
"Reuse. Recycle. Rethink — your clothes deserve a second life, not a landfill."
