This is super cool, thanks for sharing Richard! Additionally, I’ve always enjoyed any visit to our factories but not everyone has had that opportunity. I think some more production videos would be great to see for anyone who’s geeky about that stuff like I am. There’s definitely a lot of hard work that goes into each product!…

The Wall 3 years, 4 months agoSustainability in Lowestoft
A really lovely visit to Lowestoft today to say goodbye to my friends and colleagues there.
Great to see the improvements in packing with paper tape and strapping replacing plastic and the brush bagging machine now using paper instead of plastic.
Most of our brushes are merchandised in store and so the retailers open our bags fill the merchandisers and then throw away the bags. With the move to paper that is 1 million fewer plastic bags thrown away every year. The team also improved the information that is printed on each pack.
Well done team Lowestoft!

The Wall 3 years, 4 months agoPhew!!! It was a busy week in Comms last week. In amongst all the busyness I managed to grab a few hours with the wonderful Helly Summerly, our Winsor&Newton Brand Director at the Pop-Up at GreatArt, Shoreditch.
We spent Thursday morning immersed and surrounded by Winsor&Newton promarkers and even found time to try them out.
Helly and I got some quality time together, and we had really lovely conversations. It highlighted the importance of connecting with my fellow colleagues and demonstrated that this could happen anywhere, at any time.
The drawings shown in the images below aren’t our handy work. They are from entrants to the competition that was part of the Pop-Up initiative.

The Wall 3 years, 4 months agoLast Thursday, the Wellbeing Team at London Hub hosted an afternoon of activities.
Starting with an art class facilitated by the amazing Stephanie Nebbia, followed by an insightful and open discussion on ways of working at the Hub (we got to try out “Polls” using MS Teams … watch this space for more of that in 2023).
Some of you may remember that we had a Winsor & Newton stand at the Chelsea Flower Show last year. There were hundreds of flowers created by attendees which we kept!!! We spent an hour creating a mural of stunning flowers which will hang in our workplace.
The afternoon was wrapped up with drinks and pizza and lots of banter.
I managed to capture the tail end of the afternoon (the flowers and drinks!!) and created a video to capture the moment. Sharing this with you now …. click on the link here
Enjoy!!!

Millions of tonnes of clothing, shoes and other textiles end up in landfill every year because very little is sent for recycling .
“The current fashion system uses high volumes of non-renewable resources, including petroleum, extracted to produce clothes that are often used only for a short period of time, after which the materials are largely lost to landfill or incineration. “This system puts pressure on valuable resources such as water, pollutes the environment and degrades ecosystems in addition to creating societal impacts on a global scale.” There are good reasons to seek out alternatives to chucking clothes in the bin – globally the fashion industry is responsible for 10% of all greenhouse gas emissions, with textile production alone is estimated to release 1.2 billion tonnes of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere every year. Vast amounts of water are also needed to produce the clothes we wear too and the fashion industry is responsible for 20% of global waste water. At the same time we are buying more clothes than ever – the average consumer now buys 60% more clothing than they did 15 years ago. More than two tonnes of clothing are bought each minute in the UK, more than any other country in Europe. Globally, around 56 million tonnes of clothing are bought each year, and this is expected to rise to 93 million tonnes by 2030 and 160 million tonnes by 2050.
"Reuse. Recycle. Rethink — your clothes deserve a second life, not a landfill."
