    SUSTAINABILITY FRIDAY

Have you heard of the Olio app? Are you based in the UK?

I’ve used Olio for a few years now. It’s an amazing resource for free food and free items, as well as borrowing things like power tools. What started as a way to combat food waste has grown into something much more.

I’ve used it to declutter and share food I won’t use up before I go on holiday. I’ve also gained a bread-maker, a wall shelf, and a wine rack that would have otherwise landed up in the dump.Last week Saturday I had a declutter and it coincided with Olios ‘Share Saturday’. It was the biggest Saturday for sharing in Olio’s history. People across 375 locations across the UK, Channel Islands and Ireland were active in one day.

The most one person listed was 83 items. In 2 days I got rid of a folding laptop table, a wine rack (yes, the same one I got from the app originally), a mousepad, a shelf, and a stack of empty moving boxes. One of the people I met knew a previous owner of my home and we landed up having a long chat. It turns out the owner was a leading British military historian who was a prolific speaker despite being ‘profoundly deaf’: https://www.theguardian.com/books/2009/feb/27/colin-white-obituary.

I’ve met other people who are students looking for free houseplants, people who gather materials for community workshops, and I’ve gotten to know several people in my neighbourhood who I wouldn’t have otherwise.Find out about Olio: https://olioex.com/

This year’s theme for World AIDS Day is “Putting Ourselves to the Test: Achieving Equity to End HIV.” It encourages people to unite globally to eliminate the disparities and inequities that create barriers to HIV testing, prevention, and access to HIV care.

First observed in 1988, World AIDS Day is a day to unite to help end HIV and remember those lost to AIDS-related illnesses.

Lets us never forget the past atrocity and discrimination against those living (and who died) with HIV and AIDS.

Packaging idea:  I just got done with a staff training session with our awesome retail partner Opus.  They liked the QR codes on the side of the Cotman Pocket sets that leads you to a tutorial on the Winsor & Newton site as a tool for sharing information with customers who are shopping in store.  Maybe this is something we can incorporate onto all new packaging if space allows.

Our awesome TFAC artist Ryan Martin does an amazing job at supporting our retailers by posting to stories after demos.  Check out this little video shouting out Allard’s Art by visiting Ryan’s stories on IG @ryanmartinart
