I am going to copy and paste with pride for this sustainability wednesday, check out Toby’s post on watering your garden, useful and informative. The comments are interesting and show how people are making improvements in their own homes. https://intranet.colart.com/en/cgt/sustainably-watering-your-garden-in-a-draught/

Water Scarcity is a real issue and is something that colart monitor, and have KPI’s in place to reduce.  I am trying to introduce 4 minute showers in my house, as you can imagine this is proving to be difficult. #whatareyoudoing?

    • Depends on how many of those 4 minute showers one is allowed to book in a row 🙂

    • We have a Combi Boiler in the kitchen that takes a minute or 2 to get hot water up to the bathroom, so we have started to put a bucket under the shower to collect the clean water until it gets hot. Then we tip the water in our water butt outside to water the garden. One shower heating up half fills the bucket (x 3 or 4 showers a day in the family), a surprising amount of wasted water otherwise.

    • We have used a washing up bowl all summer. The waste water is used on the garden – if its really dirty then under bushes but if its just grey water then the flower pots get it.

Last Sunday, Bonny Colart represented Liquitex at a local art competition event in Japan called “Geisai #21” hosted by Japan’s renowned artist, Takashi Murakami. We have not only put out our booth but also selected and presented our very own award, which went to an up-and-coming artist, Shinya Ookuma. At the booth, we had quite a few artists and event visitors test out the 12 new Heavy Body colors we are launching this fall, had them follow our social media channels, and sold some products. It was quite successful as our booth really stood out from our competitor, Holbein, and both the new followers and sales we made there exceeded our expectations!

\”Some assert that an individual’s intelligence is a fixed quantity, a quantity which cannot be increased. We must protest and react against this brutal pessimism. . . .With practice, training, and above all, method, we manage to increase our attention, our memory, our judgment and literally to become more intelligent than we are.-Alfred Binet, inventor of the original IQ test.

    • Agree Johnny. It all depends on your mindset. Do you have a fixed mindset (which is fine), then you assume that intelligence is given at birth and there is little you can do. If you have a growth mindset, you assume the neuroplasticity of the brain can help it grow and develop. Basically the brain (and our intelligence) grows with the challenges we give them (much like the liver but in a much less healthy way I suppose). It is an interesting topic to explore, especially if you look at it from a point of well-being and health in old age

      • I agree with you fully.
In, “The Mean IQ of Americans: Massive Gains 1932-1978” psychologist James Flynn found that,
“The obvious interpretation of this pattern is that representative samples of Americans did
better and better on IQ tests over a period of 46 years, the total gain amounting to a rise in
        mean IQ of 13.8 points.”
o We can expect results when students are placed in instrumental instruction and given
the environmental structure and instruction that accelerates this process. This is the,
“practice, training, and above all, method,” Binet spoke about through which, “we
manage to increase our attention, our memory, our judgment and literally to become
        more intelligent than we are

        Indeed a very interesting subject!

    • we should never stop learning!

A big shout out to TFAC artist Ryan Martin for completing his 50 paintings in 50 days challenge which will eventually be hanging at the Sanchez Art Center in Pacifica, CA  Ryan took it upon himself to use a different Liquitex Soft Body color in each painting and showcased them in social media posts on his Instagram feed @ryanmartinart.

Additionally out very own Kristen Brown, @kristen_brown_art on IG, has done the same but with Winsor & Newton watercolours.  Please give each of them a follow and see the beautiful way they’ve represented our brands.

    • well done to both of them!I am interested about their experiences (was it easy, did they struggle, did they become bored, was there more focus, how did they make it part of their daily routine)… so many questions!

Would be interesting to see also if this is something we could translate to an internal challenge? Maybe not 50 days, but 50 colleagues?

      • Thanks, Jasper! It’s hard to find the time to paint every day, but I carved out one hour more or less every night after my daughter went to bed to dedicate to this project. It’s also great practice to paint every day!

    • congratulations to Ryan and Kristen for completing these marathon challenge – i have seen quite a few posts on INSTA and kept asking myself “how many more to go . . . ?”
thank you Jimmy for posting this

      • Thanks, Dennis! I just finished my final piece last night. Ryan and I will be installing the work next Monday. I think Ryan’s work is going to look amazing all together on the gallery wall. The opening of this event alone is attended by hundreds of people, so this will be great promotion for the Liquitex brand. Stay tuned for his install video on Instagram!

    • Incredible! I’ve been following you both and cannot wait to see the installation!
