The Wall 3 years, 9 months agoThe Journey โ Welcome Aboard
Last week we travelled to Sweden to learn more about the Scandinavian folklore tales, this week we are going back to Poland and the Winsor & Newton Journey campaign with Papiernik by Empik, together with the amazing artist Zenja!ย
This campaign is all about creating postcards from different cities in Poland 😊
Our amazing artist Zenja has been with us on this journey since June and so far, she has done 2 beautiful live sessions on Papiernik By Empikโs Instagram profile.ย Curious about the live sessions? Have a look at the below links:
After each live session we have run a contest/challenge where we asked followers to join in and win beautiful Winsor & Newton materials. You can see the results of the challenge under the hashtag #winsorzenja on Instagram.ย
We would also like to take this opportunity to invite you all for a third live session together with Zenja on August the 8th at 7PM CEST. The live session will be held on Papiernik by Empik Instagram page, where Zenja will create a postcard from Krakรณw!
Want to follow Zenjaโs journey? Make sure to keep an eye on her Instagram page where she frequently shares her journey throughout Poland on her story.ย On her stories you will also find a link to the Winsor & Newton product page, which Papiernik by Empik created just for this campaign.
Pack your wooden shoes and get your bike ready because next week we are travelling back to the Netherlands!
See you there! 😉

The Wall 3 years, 9 months agoDid you know we tend to fossilize sitting all day? Together with @MarieVincent, @Charlotte Derks, and @PaulineGuyon, we experimented a cycling meeting in beautiful Brittany, from Concarneau fishermen harbour to Pont-Aven flourishing city of painters: a great way to refresh and foster inspiration for 2023 coms and events plan! We visited the Pont-Aven museum, which offers an immersive experience in late 19th century โPont Aven art schoolโ, thanks to Paul Gauguin, Emile Bernard, Paul Cerusier, Maurice Denis and other pioneer artists. The summer exhibition starring Mathurin Meheut (1882 โ 1958 traveler, naturalist, etcher, illustrator, painter using gouache, caseinโฆ) offered a vibrant testimony of Brittanyโs traditional cultures and evolution towards modernity. https://youtu.be/0vVA9zVBnM4The next day, we were invited by Parisian artist Michel Costiou, founding father of the โart of movementโ, to participate in his summer creative workshop โMarine rythms and reflectionsโ with a plein air drawing session on the windy harbour, a private visit of his summer exhibition โFulgurancesโ in a former fish cannery, and an intensive activity in La Forรชt Fouesnant theater where we learnt the principles of real-time drawing while the dancer was performing on stage. Energizing fun, and a great opportunity to connect with all attendees of the Costiou Academy, aged 15-75, who shared with us very interesting insights about their art journey and in particular the use of iconic LB Flashe and mixed techniques. More to come in November, with another special exhibition at Charbonnelโฆ Stay tuned!

The Wall 3 years, 9 months agoQuick update on my preparations for my charity bike ride in September.ย ย Training is tracking well.ย In July I completed 73 hours in saddle, riding 992.5 miles, with over 63,253 feet of climbing hills!ย This is the equivalent of the full Lands End to John OโGroats that I will be doingย across the back to back 9 days in September!
This weekend I ventured South passing through the lovely Shropshire and Worcestershire country side, past the Iron Bridge and into the beautiful Bewdley.ย If only DC7 was open in Kidderminster, I could have popped in for refreshments!ย ย This ride was 102.5 miles, all on my own!
Last weekend I completed my first back to back 100โs.ย The Saturday ride being 111.5 miles (8.5k of hills) and Sunday being 102 miles (6.1k of hills).ย ย Sunday was the hardest day on the bike so far.ย Not only was it my first back to back 100, but it rained for over 60 miles, with some of the down pour being really heavy.ย My rain jacket protected me from getting wet upper body, but my lower half and feet were drenched.ย I felt like I was peddling buckets of water on my feet.ย ย
39 days to go! Sponsorship link below and anything greatly appreciated.ย ย

These are some great updates Martyn & insane amount of effort on your part! The biking in the rain description is very vivid and I command you for getting through it, sounds slightly unpleasant ๐ …

Donation made – it’s a really significant and important cause that you are raising funds for. I couldn’t be more proud of you Martin for your commitment, drive, passion, tenacity … the list of words go on …. this is a massive achievement …. not just the fundraising, not just the actual ride but the training and practice … very impressive indeed.…

in awe Martyn! Just in awe… the determination, the preparation and dedication. It might feel like something logical to you, but looking at it from the outside… I think you’re a little mental (in the good way) and just have so much respect for what (and how!) you are doing. keep it going and keep us updated!…

The Wall 3 years, 9 months agoIt appears that Johnny Depp may be using some Liquitex paint markers…and drinking some wine!
Happy Friday to the regular folks and Hollywood elite.
-
If it is not a mega pint, it does not count ๐
(little inside joke, sorry). Did you read that in his auction in London he sold all his work within 24 hours? What I appreciate about him is how he is sharing that he always felt too insecure to share that he enjoys painting/working creatively and did not dare to share but now that has changed and he found the confidence to share with the world, regardless of what the world might think of it. This is something I often see with creative people: being hesitant to share what you have created, which to me is a real shame. I think it is great that Johnny made this step now and hopefully he’ll inspire more people to be proud of their work and make them feel comfortable to share with the world. … -

…the wine is not a surprise 😉 but the fact that he may be using our markers is a nice thing to find out…

Millions of tonnes of clothing, shoes and other textiles end up in landfill every year because very little is sent for recycling .
“The current fashion system uses high volumes of non-renewable resources, including petroleum, extracted to produce clothes that are often used only for a short period of time, after which the materials are largely lost to landfill or incineration. “This system puts pressure on valuable resources such as water, pollutes the environment and degrades ecosystems in addition to creating societal impacts on a global scale.” There are good reasons to seek out alternatives to chucking clothes in the bin – globally the fashion industry is responsible for 10% of all greenhouse gas emissions, with textile production alone is estimated to release 1.2 billion tonnes of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere every year. Vast amounts of water are also needed to produce the clothes we wear too and the fashion industry is responsible for 20% of global waste water. At the same time we are buying more clothes than ever – the average consumer now buys 60% more clothing than they did 15 years ago. More than two tonnes of clothing are bought each minute in the UK, more than any other country in Europe. Globally, around 56 million tonnes of clothing are bought each year, and this is expected to rise to 93 million tonnes by 2030 and 160 million tonnes by 2050.
"Reuse. Recycle. Rethink — your clothes deserve a second life, not a landfill."

Hi Lily
thanks for sharing! What is the difference between Papiernik and Empik?
PS. I may be Dutch…but I do not have any wooden shoes (which we call ‘klompen’). I have 2 bikes though… so hopefully that compensates it a bit ๐…
Hi Jasper, thanks for asking! Papiernik by Empik is a part of Empik chain. Empik’s stores are mainly located in large areas and shopping malls. Papiernik’s stores are much smaller and are located in housing estates.
P.S. It compensates for sure ๐…
Jasper, you should then buy klompen! how it is even possible you dont have it?! …
That, my friend, is a very good question!…
Great! Job very well done! I know exactly how difficult it was to pull this all together and push them (Empik) towards the right direction! I am sure this it just the beginning of many more successful campaigns!…
Thank you, Jakub!…
Such great work done in alligning al these parties and creating such an inspiring and engaging campaign!!!…
Thanks, Robert! ๐…
it’s great to read about how you are bringing our brands to life in the market ๐…
Thank you for your feedback, Jane!…
