Recently, when buying cosmetics for my daughters (OMG – I was not even aware of the wide variety of needs that must be satisfied, and the prices on top, as so far it was always done by their Mum 😉 ), I came across this great looking tubes, made of paper & recycled plastic.
Product Development & Brand Teams in Colart – do you think it is something we could consider when developing new packaging, for AC (or any other waterbased) ranges, for example?!

    • Was the tube itself (rather than ‘lid’) pure cardboard or a blend of cardboard and plastic? I guess challenge of blends is going to be recycling at the end where it becomes hard to seperate the various material parts.

I am a big fan of the QR code as this is a really strong for consumer support (supporting information including sustainability, regs etc) and marketing (gives us ability to retarget the consumer). There is an idea in the thinktank to impelment this on our own products.

    • I have no idea if it was pure cardboard or blend, but assume, it is OK to recycle, if they call it – ECO tube. Maybe worth checking.

    • Really interesting, Jakub. And I hope you’ve recovered from your shopping trip!

    • I discovered last week that Brand “Carte d’or” has given up plastic bin to pack ice cream and are using now bin made by carton. It seems to be the same kind of carton you have seen Jakub. It is written on the packaging they have reduced of 90% the use of plastic: a thin film of plastic remains to prevent leakage. Package is recyclable. As you said Jakub, we should look at this for our products.

    • really interesting solution Jakub, and something that Rebecca Smith and Ajita Chamberlain have been exploring as part of a think tank idea, unfortunately without a satisfying solution yet. We are in touch with Carole Castendet to explore options, and might have to add this one to the list. Thank you for sharing and please continue to do so if you come across anything interesting! (and good luck on the cosmetics for Kopek Junior… the joys of being a parent!)

    • Thanks for sharing this information everyone and keep the flow of information coming. As Jasper says this is something we are interested in but we do not have a solution – yet!

    • Good sharing Jakub! Indeed we are in discussion with our supplier who manufacture these tubes for L’Oreal. As in materials choices there are always pro and cons, we are checking if we could organize a “supplier live presentation” of various sustainable startegies to support our future Brand strategies. As Albea mentionned, we can still debate on the packaging options, none is miracle but we can still improve our packaging and reduce our environment impact.
