The Wall 3 years, 10 months agoLast Friday I went to see Jose Carlos Naranjo who was given a 2-month Residency at Casa de Velazquez, a very prestigious cultural institution in Madrid.
After 6 years in London, he came back to Spain and is thriving his professional path from here. Also was a dad, his most recent and challenging project😊
He is enjoying a lot this experience, developing big artworks, and exploring new techniques with Oil; he is a W&N fan but tried LB Oils and loved them.
What a surprise when I got there and found Mathew Gibson also visiting him. Really nice to engage and keep up with artists along their creative journey!-
Oh we’ve lost an amazing person and unbelievable artist here in the UK and you’ve (re)gained one!!! How exciting for Jose … this is brilliant news!…
-
so nice Marta to see you connecting with Jose Carlos and Mathew both incredible artists and for ever part of the colart family …

Looks amazing Marta, and what a small world it is that you bumped into Mathew! …

The Wall 3 years, 10 months agoIt may interest folks to know that the record for the highest value of comic book cover art sold was smashed last Thursday, as the original artwork for Frank Miller’s iconic ‘The Dark Knight Returns’ was sold for $2.4 million USD at auction.
This beats the previous record of $600 thousand USD for Batman No. 251 which sold in 2019.
It goes to show how quickly iconic pieces are raising in value off the back of their character’s increased prevalence in modern culture.
More proof, if any was needed, that Graphic Art is one of the most exciting areas of the category today, increasing it’s value not only in sales and uses, but also in auction houses.

There’s a huge market and appreciation for this art form. Thanks for posting!
For example, hubby and I picked up this beauty on Saturday (still in its original plastic) for £30. It’s worth £500+ on https://www.amazon.co.uk/Aliens-vs-Predator-Original-Anniversary/dp/1506715680…

The Wall 3 years, 10 months agoThis week, Chevelle Sands and I attended the POPAI (shopper experience association in the UK) Sustainability Summit in London. The conference was all about sharing journeys towards developing more sustainable merchandising / sales support in store. Loads of (sustainable) energy across the room and some very interesting ideas and journeys shared by P&G, Unilever, L’Oréal, Kellogg’s, Boots and Targus. They have also been very open about the challenges that they are facing including the diversity of views and guidelines on sustainability issued by retailers or countries as well as, sometimes, the cost implication of using some more sustainable materials (but not always, some can also be cheaper!). Some interesting food for thoughts and actions for us including investigating the potential use of new materials (including a super strong and easily recyclable type of cardboard) where relevant, taking a deeper look at the quantity of packaging that currently wraps our merchandising items and reviewing opportunities to reduce the weight of some merchandising items if appropriate.

Interesting reading. Love the idea of the SB Fibre rigid paperboard. I think there’s a real opportunity for some innovative packaging/merch design here. Imagine if the carton that was delivered to our retail partners was also the fully stocked shelving unit as well, all made from a high-quality sustainable product

love that idea Ben!…

I look forward to seeing how these ideas progress – Whilst we cannot wait for everything, and indeed we are not, we really do need the huge multinational companies/brands pushing the sustainability agenda to help scale the volumes SMEs can then benefit from. …

The Wall 3 years, 10 months agoAlso following the launch of the Lifespeak platform, the structure for integration through economic activity “Les jardins de Vaujoubert” presented vegetables from their market garden production to company employees.
In order to allow people to favor organic food and promote local distribution channel, employees will now be able to have baskets of vegetables delivered to their workplace on a regular basis.
really cool initiative! Will the Le Mans cantine be cooking with them too?

Millions of tonnes of clothing, shoes and other textiles end up in landfill every year because very little is sent for recycling .
“The current fashion system uses high volumes of non-renewable resources, including petroleum, extracted to produce clothes that are often used only for a short period of time, after which the materials are largely lost to landfill or incineration. “This system puts pressure on valuable resources such as water, pollutes the environment and degrades ecosystems in addition to creating societal impacts on a global scale.” There are good reasons to seek out alternatives to chucking clothes in the bin – globally the fashion industry is responsible for 10% of all greenhouse gas emissions, with textile production alone is estimated to release 1.2 billion tonnes of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere every year. Vast amounts of water are also needed to produce the clothes we wear too and the fashion industry is responsible for 20% of global waste water. At the same time we are buying more clothes than ever – the average consumer now buys 60% more clothing than they did 15 years ago. More than two tonnes of clothing are bought each minute in the UK, more than any other country in Europe. Globally, around 56 million tonnes of clothing are bought each year, and this is expected to rise to 93 million tonnes by 2030 and 160 million tonnes by 2050.
"Reuse. Recycle. Rethink — your clothes deserve a second life, not a landfill."
