The Wall 3 years, 10 months agoAs part of the launch of the mental health and well-being platform Lifespeak, the subject of environmental consumerism has been selected allowing the creation of a month dedicated to this theme. Several related activities to this topic were organized. The first one wasย waste collection on the Colartโs site. Thanks to the participation of around twenty employees and for 1 hour, several kilos of waste were picked up ( cigarettes, boxes, crystal, plastics, household wastes).
We sincerely thank all the volunteers for their commitment to the environment of our company and thus allowing us to have a clean and pleasant site.

The Wall 3 years, 10 months agoOn Tuesday evening @Liza Kindon rang me to say she had aย swam of bees in her beautiful Magnolia tree, could we come and get them, this being the second swarm this year both originating from a colony thatโs lived in an inaccessible part of her chimney for years.ย The first swam, which had the original queen,ย was collected by a fellow bee keeper several weeks ago and now with a new virgin queen another swarm relocated from her chimney. So, my other half (pictured in the beekeeper suit) and I leapt into action and buzzed off to get them and today theyโre going to a lovely rural farm location (pic 1) where we keep some of our bees, others are in a local churchyard. ย ย Team Kidderminster Sustainability doing ย our bit for the planet, ย as soon as we have some honey from the bees Liza will be able to sample her own bees work.

this is great! We must look after bees and it’s so good to hear about this in action.…

how cool! well done Jan. My bees died last winter unfortunately… but hopefully will get a new swarm to occupy my tiny garden once again next year (the neighbors are already complaining that the harvest from their fruit trees is smaller this year…). …

The Wall 3 years, 10 months agoDuring 2021 when COVID-19 was taking its toll on the business, we decided to seize the opportunity to upskill our team.
We sourced two training courses which we thought would benefit both the individuals and the business and as a bonus we managed to obtain local funding, so we didnโt have to pay a penny for the training or dip into the Colart levy pot! We had a huge uptake on the courses, better than we could have ever expected.
We offered the team two courses: A Level 2 Diploma in manufacturing, this was taken up by most of our supervisors and team leaders and the second was a course in Kaizen (lean manufacturing) with a unit on Net Zero (sustainability) this was taken up by 13 of our factory team.
So, today we received confirmation that each one had passed their course. This was a very proud day for the management team so we wasted no time in gathering the site together to present our learners with their well-deserved certificates and celebrated their achievement as a factory with a roaring round of applause.
Adrian announced how incredibly proud he and the management team are of each of them and expressed how we hope their new skills will bring them confidence in putting forward suggestions for continuous improvement on site.
A massive well done!

Well done team Snaz! A great achievement by all, you should feel immensely proud of yourself. I watched an amazing documentary recently about the (86-year-old) Dalai Lama who said ‘the best thing about every day is that I am still learning. Every day I learn something new’.…

Millions of tonnes of clothing, shoes and other textiles end up in landfill every year because very little is sent for recycling .
“The current fashion system uses high volumes of non-renewable resources, including petroleum, extracted to produce clothes that are often used only for a short period of time, after which the materials are largely lost to landfill or incineration. “This system puts pressure on valuable resources such as water, pollutes the environment and degrades ecosystems in addition to creating societal impacts on a global scale.” There are good reasons to seek out alternatives to chucking clothes in the bin – globally the fashion industry is responsible for 10% of all greenhouse gas emissions, with textile production alone is estimated to release 1.2 billion tonnes of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere every year. Vast amounts of water are also needed to produce the clothes we wear too and the fashion industry is responsible for 20% of global waste water. At the same time we are buying more clothes than ever – the average consumer now buys 60% more clothing than they did 15 years ago. More than two tonnes of clothing are bought each minute in the UK, more than any other country in Europe. Globally, around 56 million tonnes of clothing are bought each year, and this is expected to rise to 93 million tonnes by 2030 and 160 million tonnes by 2050.
"Reuse. Recycle. Rethink — your clothes deserve a second life, not a landfill."
