The Wall 3 years, 10 months agoThe Journey – Welcome Aboard
Last week we announced the launch of The Journey. This week The Journey Takes us to Poland.Traveling has always been a great source of inspiration – Polish artist and social media creator @samantalesiak (audience: 93 K) is here to take you on a personal journey along her inner road map for you to experience the transformational power of painting with Winsor & Newton materials.
A childhood memory – foraging mushrooms in the woods with her family, has taught the artist true awe and respect for nature and gratefulness for the ancestral wisdom shared by her mother. Do you feel inspired to explore and sketch the many wonders of the forest with your own set of Winsor & Newton materials?
For this journey, Samanta and Winsor & Newton have teamed up with local art and craft chain @empik (the largest operation of this trade in Poland – Instagram reach: 203 K) to supply the audience with the finest materials aligned to the creative inspiration curated by the artist – all creative content funnels into the POS.
A video, posted by the artist on YouTube to kick off the campaign already garnered almost 10 K views and there is more creative content from the artist coming.Be sure to visit Empik and @samantalesiak to find out more about the interactive tutorials and give-aways. And the best is: the whole journey with Samanta and Empik will continue until the end of September so you’ll see more engaging activations, all applying Winsor & Newton’s inspiring materials!
Be sure to look out for our post next week that will take you on The Journey to the Netherlands.

The Wall 3 years, 10 months agoIvo & I had a super-informative, engaging, thought-provoking, and fun workshop with the fabulous Crayola the Queen at The West Works building today. Focusing on the LGBTIQ+ community and how we can use our platforms as allies to be more inclusive, not just in June/Pride month, but ongoing. Lots of food-for-thought to take away as well as documentary-viewing homework. We would both highly recommend anyone taking the opportunity to see her in action if you get the chance.

It was definetely thought provoking and it was interesting to learn about struggles that LGBTIQ+ community needs to face everyday and personal experiences of Crayola the Queen. …

I attended the later session. Most may think of drag queens as pure entertainment. We were lucky to see the person behind the glam. Intelligent, articulate, passionate and most of all, an advocate for inclusiveness within and outside their own community. I was touched, inspired and informed … being a 53 year old gay person … you realise in these moments that we never stop learning. …
-
Hi Laura, would you mind sharing the documentary titles that give a good insight on this topic? thanks!…

The Wall 3 years, 10 months agoToday marks the 5th anniversary of the Grenfell Tower fire. I still remember 5 years ago when I could see the building from the window of The Studio Building.I got the shirt I’m wearing today on the 1 year anniversary of the fire at a community event where they were screen printing shirts. During this event, I also met someone organising art therapy for those affected by the fire. As part of one of the many product clear outs at The Studio Building, I walked with product to the community centre to donate our paints to support the organiser of that event and the local community.

Lovely post Susanna. It an event that we should never forget and remind ourselves that we can come together, unite and feel “solidarity” when so much people experience hardship and injustice. …

a really thoughtful post Susana. I can’t quite believe it is 5 years and that day lives long in people’s memories. It would be good to know how the art therapy has helped for the community and what more we can do.…

Lovely post Susana. What a heartbreaking day it was – and what a fight for justice survivors still face. I’m sure your efforts were a great help to the local community.…

thank you for sharing Susana – and for helping to build hope from despair.…

I cannot believe it was 5 years ago either… already…this is indeed a very nice post Susana. …

Thank you for posting Susana. It was a tragic day and I’m sure that donation helped those affected to heal. Some of my former classmates at art school went on to teach art therapy and I know from them how impactful it can be.…

The Wall 3 years, 10 months agoHappy Monday All!
Last Thursday Elephant Academy hosted our first corporate event for 3 Monkeys Zeno, a global PR company based in Soho.
Emmely and I went to the company’s London HQ and held an art class for 45 participants lasting two hours and using our new Elephant paint sets. It was not only a great success with some encouraging feedback but gave us the opportunity to test a new revenue stream for Academy. The event had a margin of 86% and creates exciting new potential for us.
I want to highlight some of my favourite comments from the evening:- ‘Thank you so, so much for last night, everyone really enjoyed themselves and we didn’t realise how many secret artists we have in the house!’
- ‘Wow, this packaging and branding is really lovely’ (Elephant paint sets)
- ‘Such a lot of fun last night, a huge thanks!’
- ‘I can’t believe painting is so relaxing and meditative’
We plan to expand our corporate offering so watch this space! And if you know of any companies that might be interested in holding a similar event, please do let me know.
Have a great week ahead!-
Karen Spinner replied 3 years, 10 months ago
Well done to you both, Briar. I know the team absolutely LOVED the event and it’s quite incredible to see what they created in that time fuelled by creativity, Elephant paint…and gallons of Prosecco! Exciting to see where we can take this and another feather in the cap of Academy.…

Briar Howard replied 3 years, 10 months ago
It was amazing to see what people could create in such a short time with the guidance of Emmely and the prosecco confidence! Looking forward to it also!…

great result Briar and happy to hear people enjoyed it (how could they not, though). And agree with other comments: this could be a very interesting way to get more people painting, especially as during covid so many team building events have been done remotely (gin tasting or netflix party) – this is a great time to connect in person again and what better way to do that than with getting your hands dirty ! …
-
Briar Howard replied 3 years, 10 months ago
Thanks Jasper! Completely agree, we had so many comments on the evening from people new to art who didn’t realise how relaxing painting was but also a great activity to bond over as a team. We hope to visit not only businesses but other groups that would benefit from in person art classes. So much potential!…

Brilliant initiative Briar and team.
“…we didn’t realise how many secret artists we have in the house!”
There are ‘secret artists’ everywhere, and events like this (that could also be done in stores) will re-ignite their inner creativity and grow our brands. …-

Appreciate your comment Lawrence! And completely agree, I also love the idea of an instore events too, will add it to our list! Ill link you through to our events page as soon as it is live. Thanks again.…

Millions of tonnes of clothing, shoes and other textiles end up in landfill every year because very little is sent for recycling .
“The current fashion system uses high volumes of non-renewable resources, including petroleum, extracted to produce clothes that are often used only for a short period of time, after which the materials are largely lost to landfill or incineration. “This system puts pressure on valuable resources such as water, pollutes the environment and degrades ecosystems in addition to creating societal impacts on a global scale.” There are good reasons to seek out alternatives to chucking clothes in the bin – globally the fashion industry is responsible for 10% of all greenhouse gas emissions, with textile production alone is estimated to release 1.2 billion tonnes of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere every year. Vast amounts of water are also needed to produce the clothes we wear too and the fashion industry is responsible for 20% of global waste water. At the same time we are buying more clothes than ever – the average consumer now buys 60% more clothing than they did 15 years ago. More than two tonnes of clothing are bought each minute in the UK, more than any other country in Europe. Globally, around 56 million tonnes of clothing are bought each year, and this is expected to rise to 93 million tonnes by 2030 and 160 million tonnes by 2050.
"Reuse. Recycle. Rethink — your clothes deserve a second life, not a landfill."
