FabrianoInAcquarello 2022 (the largest worldwide watercolour event) took place last week in Bologna. Many artists came from all over the world and were happy to finally meet again. As always, our W&N ambassadors Eudes Correia (Brasil), Didier Brot (France), Silvia de Bastiani (Italy) had a great success with their Master demo and on W&N stand!

Our competitors are the first to tell us that W&N is very lucky to have such loyal ambassadors ! We know that many of them (Escoda, Fabriano, Daniel Smith โ€ฆ) are trying to recruit them. As an ex. Escoda offered Eudes to create its personal Brushes Travel Trousse โ€ฆHave a good day !

    • This looks fantastic Isabelle, well done!

    • Thank you Isabelle for this post highlighting a very important event in our industry we are and should be part of in a prominent way. I am a 100% convinced that our artist led engagement, education, innovation and communication is the right way to go. Apart from Eudes, Didier and Silva, I would also like to call out watercolorists Agnes Cecile (who was there) and Karen Kluglein. I follow and support these superstars on INSTA and encourage you all to do the same!

    • heard other feedback from artists who joined that Winsor & Newton was looking really good and the collaboration with our artists is really inspirational. Well done to you Isabelle and the team in Italy to get this organized and being so involved. Wish I could have been there

    • Amazing, well done Isabelle! A lot of watercolourists from our local markets as well as members of local Watercolour societies in Northern Europe travel to this event every year. Would be great to team up next year and invite renowned members / artists from NE as well, to strengthen our partnership with local societies and drive brand awareness & engagement with this segmented, highly interested community. Thanks for sharing!

With the increases in the cost of living recently, at Kidderminster we wanted to find a way to support each other so created a whatโ€™s App group for all employees on the site.

Anyone in the group can ย upload anything they no longer require such as clothes, household items, plants, bikes etc.ย ย  The intention is toย  either sell, donate, swap, or buy.ย  This has been very successful with employees buying items for a small amount with no additional delivery costs.ย  One personโ€™s rubbish is another personโ€™s treasure.

    SUSTAINABILITY WEDNESDAY

Did you know that around 350,000 tonnes, or ยฃ140 million, worth of used but still wearable clothing gets sent to landfill every year in the UK? On top of this, we also send on average 700,000 tonnes of clothing to charity shops and textile recycling centres every single year.

One of the top reported reasons for throwing away clothing in the UK is because of small holes or tears in garments, most of which could easily be fixed with a needle and thread.

Since deciding not to buy any fast fashion, I have taken up sewing as a way to mend my current clothes and alter any second hand item I buy, and it is really simple once you get the hang of it!

This is a great guide for getting started with hand sewing, to help you keep your clothes longer and avoid sending them to landfill:

    • What a useful post Olivia! I’m not at all handy (I can just about manage buttons!), but I’ve got much better at getting clothing repaired or altered. One of my favourite blouses (almost vintage, nearly 20 years old!) suffered a tear recently and after a botched attempt from me, I took it to my local dry cleaners who did a great job not only of repairing, but altering the shape of the sleeve. It now feels like a new top, so it’s almost like receiving that new-shopping high!

    • This is a fab reminder, thanks for sharing! Even taking an ill-fitting item to a local sewing/alterations person can turn something you might give up on into a special item you’ll never want to give away.

    • Great post! It makes me so glad when I read how people act to let less print on our planet. I also transform old adult clothes into kids new clothes… my daughter, my nieces are wearing dresses or shirts that were before my husbands shirts. every little action is important!

    • Ah!! I have so many clothes to “get rid of” but have been reluctant to just throw them away for the very reasons you highlight in your post. Perhaps we can start a sewing bee???

    • What a great resource, thanks for sharing Olivia! Here’s another little compilation to aspire to when it comes to mending items: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yE0rJF9EXRE ๐Ÿ˜‰

    VOLUNTEERING AND PERSONAL ACHIEVEMENT

Many years ago Colart started highlighting the voluntary work that the Colart team were doing in their local community. This was never something I would have ever thought about, selfishly the thought of doing work for FREE did not appeal to me. However, Colart then offered an incentive. One day per year to volunteer, this then inspired me to do my bit for the community. (I thought I would do the one day per year and no more!)

As a child I attended Girlguiding and loved it. I have many great memories, so the natural thing as my girls became the right age was to enrol them in the local Girlguiding groups.

After finding out one of our local Rainbow groups would have to close as they canโ€™t get the volunteers due to the increased amount of paperwork, I decided to put myself forward to volunteer with the admin.

Then, in April they were short of adult volunteers in the group, so I offered to step in for a while, which then became a regular occurrence. It seems coming up with new activities and leading the group came quite naturally to me.

Shortly after the leader suggested I applied for the leadership qualification. (Most leaders are from teaching backgrounds so already know how to handle children, risk assessment for children, the safeguarding procedures etc). I was not sure on doing this as it was a lot of work for a volunteer role, especially on a topic I knew very little about.

After thinking long and hard about if I could achieve this, I thoughtโ€ฆ โ€˜I tell the children they can do anything if they put their mind to itโ€™ so why am I not practicing what I preach? So, the last few years I have been learning all about safeguarding, accounting, dealing with children, food hygiene and many other topics.

And the result: this weekend my girls and I had an amazing afternoon celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee with all the other local Girlguides and during this event I was finally awarded my leadership qualification badge and certificate by the Girlguiding Somerset County President which was as absolute privilege, and the best bitโ€ฆโ€ฆ being given this award in front of both of my girls and all my Rainbows.

I hope my story inspires you to go outside of your comfort zone as I did, I now give over 4 hours per week to Girlguiding (sometimes more!) and donโ€™t think anything of it.

Remember: itโ€™s never too late to learn something new or to lend a hand.

    • Great inspiring story Lucy!
Congratulations with your well deserved badge!

    • What a lovely story and super pic, Lucy! Very inspirational. You are so right about never being too old to learn. I recently watched a fantastic documentary with the (86-year-old) Dalai Lama speaking about the best part of his life being that every day he is still learning! Congrats on your badge.

    • The best bit of all this is all the fun & joy those little Rainbows get out of you giving them the most precious thing – time. The worst part is I cant take any credit for this! Well done I am really proud of you.

    • Lucy, this is such and inspiring story and you really are a super woman! In between all the time volunteering, Snazaroo , your creative business and family! Just wow!

    • no words Lucy! – you have just inspired me to stay on as linesman/assistant referee for my daughters football team (nobody wants to do it) even if she decides to stop (climbing is her passion and gets in the way) ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚
      Thank you!

    • Lucy thank you for inspiring people inside Colart and outside via your LinkedIn post ๐Ÿ™‚

    • This is just incredibly Lucy and thank you for sharing this story. I think it deserves a more permanent place in Colart’s Got Talent? You should be super proud of this … we all are!

    • Such an inspiring story, thank you for sharing Lucy, you deserve to be proud of yourself! I’ve recently agreed to help out my daughter’s London based Hungarian school (who are set up as a charity) with their bookkeeping; it’s important that we give back to organisations we want to see thrive!
