The Wall 3 years, 12 months agoFor any of you visiting NYC this year, there is a must-see exhibition to put on your calendar…Jean-Michel Basquiat: King Pleasure. The Liquitex Team* had quite a special outing last Friday to visit the exhibition in Chelsea. We were all blown away by this truly intimate look into Basquiat’s life and artistry, despite encompassing a 15,000-square-foot space. We watched Jean-Michel come into his own moving through installments and the reconstruction of three spaces important to his life: the living and dining room of his childhood home in Boerum Hill (Brooklyn, NY), his Great Jones Street studio and the Palladium nightclub. Basquiat’s sisters curated the exhibition, which included over 200 pieces of artwork never shown in public and organized it in chapters focusing on specific periods of Basquiat’s life.
Pardon the images – I am by no means a good photographer!
*Unfortunately Sarah was ill and unable to attend. Ellie graciously accepted her ticket and joined us as an extended team member.

The Wall 3 years, 12 months agoThought I would share this picture of me out on a training ride taking in one of my favorite little climbs. Quite appropriate all things consider (that I work for a art company, not that I am a artist!).
Artist Lane is a lovely little lane rising up to The Wizard in Alderley Edge, where King Arthurs Cavern lies.
Training is going well, but as always… I could do more!

The Wall 3 years, 12 months agoHappy Monday everyone!
I wanted to update you on a fantastic class Elephant Academy held recently with the support of our sister brand, Winsor & Newton.
We ran a special promotion on the Winsor & Newton newsletter in March offering a free online art class. From this we had 800 sign ups – 400 of those to our introduction to watercolour class – with traffic to Elephantacademy.art increasing by 196%!
Over 140 students from all over the world took part in our the watercolour class (taught by the brilliant Andrew Carter) and the energy and enthusiasm on the call was absolutely fantastic. We had over 180 comments during the session, with some of my favourites included below:
- A great introduction to the subject. In addition, the exercises were pretty much ideal: easy, excellent results, quick
- THANK YOU! WHAT A BEAUTIFUL EXPERIENCE! You both are wonderful!
- This is so therapeutic! ☺️
- Oh my goodness this is so fun!
- Thank you….a fabulous workshop…I didn’t want it to end!!
- Attending from home and sharing with people from all over the world on a working day!! I wish this happened more often!!!! Thank you so much!
Since the class, eight of those students have signed up to a six-week watercolour course, with many others joining another class. This shows we are able to transition consumers from a free offering to something they are prepared to pay for.
I look forward to updating you on our other classes soon! If you have any questions or want to join the fun please feel free to reach out to me on briar@elephant.art

How I love these comments, Briar! I was able to join this class and I have to say I was shocked (in the best way possible) at the genuine excitement and energy generated by this class. It was such a positive experience with students sharing their location and loving being part of this global group experiment in creativity!
Next up I want to see Liquitex and Lefranc Bourgeois collaborating with Academy to help grow our community. And as always when Briar posts about Academy, calling out to my fellow commercial directors and brand directors to think of ways you can help support the growth of Academy. It’s a fantastic (and non-contentious) part of what we are trying to do at Elephant and something everyone should want to be part of.…

The Wall 3 years, 12 months agoReally pleasing to see that two of our key UK High Street retailers, namely Argos and WHSmith, continue to see strong demand and sales across the Snazaroo portfolio.
Over the past few weeks Argos have been experiencing high demand across several lines in particular, which has led to them ordering c6000 units (c£32k) above their forecast. The team at Kidderminster, as always, have been able to fulfill and arrange delivery for this week as the build up to some key events commences, thus ensuring stock will be available for their customers. Also, always good to see that Argos continue not to discount the brand but position the products at our RRP’s.
WHSmith on-line have also confirmed new listings on our Bio-Glitter kits and our new Hang-Packs, with orders being placed this week, as they continue to invest in driving the Snazaroo brand this year, utilizing the strong assets and content that the brand team are delivering for us across all their social channels.
-
Thank you Ian for sharing this positive development with Snazaroo – clearly more people going out and celebrating birthday parties and events together brings the best of Snazaroo come alive again – even at RRP 🙂…

Millions of tonnes of clothing, shoes and other textiles end up in landfill every year because very little is sent for recycling .
“The current fashion system uses high volumes of non-renewable resources, including petroleum, extracted to produce clothes that are often used only for a short period of time, after which the materials are largely lost to landfill or incineration. “This system puts pressure on valuable resources such as water, pollutes the environment and degrades ecosystems in addition to creating societal impacts on a global scale.” There are good reasons to seek out alternatives to chucking clothes in the bin – globally the fashion industry is responsible for 10% of all greenhouse gas emissions, with textile production alone is estimated to release 1.2 billion tonnes of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere every year. Vast amounts of water are also needed to produce the clothes we wear too and the fashion industry is responsible for 20% of global waste water. At the same time we are buying more clothes than ever – the average consumer now buys 60% more clothing than they did 15 years ago. More than two tonnes of clothing are bought each minute in the UK, more than any other country in Europe. Globally, around 56 million tonnes of clothing are bought each year, and this is expected to rise to 93 million tonnes by 2030 and 160 million tonnes by 2050.
"Reuse. Recycle. Rethink — your clothes deserve a second life, not a landfill."
