As part of a school/company partnership supported by MEDEF to promote the industry, we have initiated a rapprochement with the college of Noyen s/Sarthe in order to introduce them to our company. On this occasion, I was invited this morning to discover their “mini-company” project run by 3rd graders (14 years old) all volunteers for this adventure.
Their objective was to define a need, to create the product, to establish the statutes of their company, to create the various departments (Accounting, Production, Communication, Design…) and to sell their products. They presented their project yesterday at the regional competition and are impatiently awaiting the result of their ranking.
The teacher in charge of this project will in turn be present at Colart next week for 3 days in order to discover all these services in real size at colart. She will be received on this occasion by some service managers (thanks to them 😉) who will in turn present to her what the activity of their service consists of.
The first bases were laid this morning and we should welcome future “mini-entrepreneurs” whose recruitment by “the old ones” should take place in the coming weeks, in September, to make them discover our beautiful company. .
We will define on this occasion the next steps of our partnership and how Colart can help them in the construction of their new project.

The Wall 4 years agoThis week we had students from Central St Martins UAL exploring chroma as part of their curriculum, using only Winsor and Newton and Liquitex materials. The aim was to look at how to integrate analogue and digital materials to produce outcomes, with the objectives to explore the nomenclature and potential of a colour and to find new uses for existing materials . This is a really good continuation of work that was initiated through the knowledge transfer partnership (KTP) with the UAL. What this means for us is that the artists, the art schools and its students are creating new methods and approaches for our existing materials and the recognition given to the quality of our materials. It is really interesting to see how this has already manifested itself in painting, video, photography and sculpture. They have curated a video of their findings which will be screened at the hub on Thursday the 26th May at 4pm and also on #tfacuk and the UAL social media platforms.

Millions of tonnes of clothing, shoes and other textiles end up in landfill every year because very little is sent for recycling .
“The current fashion system uses high volumes of non-renewable resources, including petroleum, extracted to produce clothes that are often used only for a short period of time, after which the materials are largely lost to landfill or incineration. “This system puts pressure on valuable resources such as water, pollutes the environment and degrades ecosystems in addition to creating societal impacts on a global scale.” There are good reasons to seek out alternatives to chucking clothes in the bin – globally the fashion industry is responsible for 10% of all greenhouse gas emissions, with textile production alone is estimated to release 1.2 billion tonnes of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere every year. Vast amounts of water are also needed to produce the clothes we wear too and the fashion industry is responsible for 20% of global waste water. At the same time we are buying more clothes than ever – the average consumer now buys 60% more clothing than they did 15 years ago. More than two tonnes of clothing are bought each minute in the UK, more than any other country in Europe. Globally, around 56 million tonnes of clothing are bought each year, and this is expected to rise to 93 million tonnes by 2030 and 160 million tonnes by 2050.
"Reuse. Recycle. Rethink — your clothes deserve a second life, not a landfill."
