Recycling: The Scrunch Test
It can often be very confusing to know what can and can’t be recycled. One method that can be used for checking plastic and foil is the scrunch test. Simply scrunch the wrapper in your hand and if it remains scrunched in a ball it is recyclable.
Whilst some local authorities may not yet have the ability to recycle soft/flexible (scrunchy) plastics, you can often take these to your local supermarket and drop them into the big bins near the entrance. These bins take everything from carrier bags, and wrappers from fruit, veg biscuits, rice, and pasta, etc. As long as it is clean and scrunchy!
With Easter around the corner and many of us likely to be gifting, or receiving, chocolate eggs and Lindt bunnies wrapped in foil, before throwing your (clean) foil into the recycling bin, wait until you’ve got about a tennis ball sized amount. It makes the recycling process easier and more efficient. -

The Wall 4 years, 1 month agoHere are some photos of yesterday wellbeing art sessions held at Kidderminster. Another 14 of our own budding artists took part, once again using Liquitex or Galeria acrylic paint on W&N canvas board, all under the tuition of demonstration artist Leanne Ellis. Twenty-six people took part and everyone finished their 2 hour session with a completed painting. Also below, there’s a photo of 23 of the 26 finished paintings (three visiting staff took theirs home after the first day’s painting so weren’t available for the group shot.) It was a great couple of days, many were a little nervous and apprehensive at the start but very quickly relaxed and had a thoroughly enjoyable couple of hours painting and it left many wanting to do it again! High 5 to everyone who had a go and producing some great paintings.

The Wall 4 years, 1 month agoDay 1 of the two day wellbeing acrylic paint tutorials on site at Kidderminster has finished with some amazing creations. We had six students per session and here they are proudly displaying their works of art. Each 2 hour session was led by demonstration artist Leanne Ellis and most started their class looking slightly apprehensive and feeling worried they couldn’t paint or draw but everyone had a great time and the results are absolutely outstanding. Well done to all who took part, tomorrow we have another 2 classes to look forward to.

Millions of tonnes of clothing, shoes and other textiles end up in landfill every year because very little is sent for recycling .
“The current fashion system uses high volumes of non-renewable resources, including petroleum, extracted to produce clothes that are often used only for a short period of time, after which the materials are largely lost to landfill or incineration. “This system puts pressure on valuable resources such as water, pollutes the environment and degrades ecosystems in addition to creating societal impacts on a global scale.” There are good reasons to seek out alternatives to chucking clothes in the bin – globally the fashion industry is responsible for 10% of all greenhouse gas emissions, with textile production alone is estimated to release 1.2 billion tonnes of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere every year. Vast amounts of water are also needed to produce the clothes we wear too and the fashion industry is responsible for 20% of global waste water. At the same time we are buying more clothes than ever – the average consumer now buys 60% more clothing than they did 15 years ago. More than two tonnes of clothing are bought each minute in the UK, more than any other country in Europe. Globally, around 56 million tonnes of clothing are bought each year, and this is expected to rise to 93 million tonnes by 2030 and 160 million tonnes by 2050.
"Reuse. Recycle. Rethink — your clothes deserve a second life, not a landfill."
