The Wall 4 years, 2 months agoSomething for those of you who like to reduce food waste, while also getting a great bargain and saving money.
Have you heard about the Olio App?
A lot of food stores, especially all Tesco’s stores work with it. Also some of the food delivery companies like Zapp work with it.
Basically they provide all of their food that’s date is about to expire to volunteers on the App, ‘Food Heros’, who collect the food then take it home and post it up on the Ap, usually in the evening. You then request anything you like and go and collect it from them. Its all Free!
My food bill has halved since using it! There is always loads of bread, pastries, and salad and vegetables, but often meat and other ingredients.
I think it is only in the UK so far, and it helps if you live a few miles from a Tesco or other stores, because then there will be someone near to you doing the collections.
Of course you can always volunteer to collect yourself occasionally.
But it is a great idea, and stops huge quantities for food going in the bin. You would not believe how much food there is on it some evenings.
Have Fun! -

The photo shows one of the information panels that we currently install in over 100 stores of our largest retail customer – Empik. Previously, they were made of foamed PVC, covered with printed foil. Currently, we use recycled cardboard, laminated with paper (also recycled), printed with ecological water-based inks.

She was also a teacher whose studio was important to the careers of a generation of artists who would become nationally known. She worked for equal rights for African Americans in the arts. In 2001 her home and studio in Saugerties, New York were listed on the New York State and National Register of Historic Places as the Augusta Savage House and Studio. Millions of tonnes of clothing, shoes and other textiles end up in landfill every year because very little is sent for recycling .
“The current fashion system uses high volumes of non-renewable resources, including petroleum, extracted to produce clothes that are often used only for a short period of time, after which the materials are largely lost to landfill or incineration. “This system puts pressure on valuable resources such as water, pollutes the environment and degrades ecosystems in addition to creating societal impacts on a global scale.” There are good reasons to seek out alternatives to chucking clothes in the bin – globally the fashion industry is responsible for 10% of all greenhouse gas emissions, with textile production alone is estimated to release 1.2 billion tonnes of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere every year. Vast amounts of water are also needed to produce the clothes we wear too and the fashion industry is responsible for 20% of global waste water. At the same time we are buying more clothes than ever – the average consumer now buys 60% more clothing than they did 15 years ago. More than two tonnes of clothing are bought each minute in the UK, more than any other country in Europe. Globally, around 56 million tonnes of clothing are bought each year, and this is expected to rise to 93 million tonnes by 2030 and 160 million tonnes by 2050.
"Reuse. Recycle. Rethink — your clothes deserve a second life, not a landfill."

Apparently it is taking place in the US as well – https://olioex.com/food-waste-in/united-states/ …
I use the app ‘too go to go’ here in NJ. Similar concept but its supports local restaurants/bakeries whilst preventing food waste. Towards the end of the day various places will post they have ‘surprise bags’ which are essentially a bag of goodies for a reduced price – we often get pastries, or side dishes for a few $’s that would have sold for $10+ full price. Stops the food going to waste and helps support small local businesses. …
Hi Sarah. You won’t be surprised to know that I have also used the ToGoodToGo Ap! Here in the UK all the coffee shops are on it i.e. Costa, Cafe Nero, Starbucks, Pret, etc. Those of you in Head Office might like to know there are several places in walking distance of the office who are on it. Great for picking up things on the way home.
Would love to hear about any other Aps from people that can help us save money and counteract the big bill rises we are all facing?…
