The Wall

I am pleased to introduce you to Over The Wall, a UK charity I have had the great privilege of getting to know this year. It is a member of the Serious Fun Children’s Network, founded more than 30 years ago by the actor and philanthropist Paul Newman. He started a free camp where kids could escape the fear and isolation of their medical conditions and, in his words, “raise a little hell.” His fantastic concept ignited a spark, and that one camp launched a global network. Today, 30 camps and programs are serving the needs of children and families worldwide.

The UK Charity, Over The Wall, aims to reach beyond the boundaries, to allow children living with the challenges of severe illness or disability and their families the chance to have fun and thrive, not just survive. They provide free of charge residential activity camps throughout the UK based on therapeutic recreation.

The camps offer many activities, but one of the children’s highlights is face painting. They recently reached out to us as they were seriously struggling. Covid impacted their activities massively, effectively putting on hold the great work they do. They had to learn and adapt. Their solution, ‘camp in the cloud’, is a new inclusive and engaging virtual programme, where campers and families can experience an Over The Wall camp virtually from their homes. Run with a balance between online and real-time activities; there are opportunities for campers and families to interact and socialise with others who are attending the same camp in the Cloud. Campers are sent a free ‘Seriously Fun Box’ in the post, containing every resource they need to participate.

The contents of the ‘Seriously Fun Boxes’ come at a cost, and this is where we were able to help. With the assistance of Ajita Chamberlain and Olivier Grimes, we were able to supply them with a great assortment of free Snazaroo clearance stock, for which they were hugely grateful.

Please watch the videos below; they are both heartwarming and inspirational. You can’t fail to be moved.

    • well done Guy! It might be little things we contribute, but sometimes the little things matter too

    • Thanks Jasper. The work that they do I brilliant. You can see in the videos that face painting is so integral to their activities. I would like to think that there is more we as a company can do to support them. Over the next few years, they aim to get back on track with their camps, but they need help.

    • Amazing work Guy, Ajita and Olivia. People forget how hard it has been for charities over the last couple of years. The ones that rely on financial support other than home clear outs to sell in shops have been hit hard. Organisations like this make such a difference to many peoples lives. The pandemic has impacted people in need more, and watching the videos of the children and families in isolation for the last couple of years hits home at how hard it has been for many. Great we can contribute even a little.

    • Fantastic that we were and are able to support such a charity. Great shout Guy and if we can do more we should. Can’t help but to be moved by this!

    • Great work Guy, Ajita and Olivia. Having a daughter with special needs I fully understand how ‘Over the Wall’ would have been struggling in recent times and it was good that we could help out. They are very deserving!

    • This is wonderful Guy. It’s great that we are able to give something back. The donation may be a relatively small thing to us, but those sorts of gestures can still mean so much.

    • Guy, this is such a brilliant post. Snazaroo over the years has supplied 100’s of charities with products to use for many reasons from fund-raising to raffles, children’s painting to adult painting, as it is a product that can bring so much fun & joy to all. Even with the numerous requests we get we nearly always find some way of helping. I think from what you have posted it could be great to tie up closely with this particular charity maybe in some kind of official way. We can help in many ways. We can provide them with a world class painter for a day (or two) The painter could do many things, paint the children, run a workshop for them or even train some staff/volunteers in basic painting and care of kit. We could have a designated fun day or even bring groups down here to see how face-paint is made. (just a few ideas). Happy to help in any way and thank you for highlighting this to us all.

    • Truly moving and inspirational Guy. Well done to you, Ajita and Olivia for fully supporting such a worthwhile charity. I have no doubt that even with a gesture so relatively small to us will mean so much to the children and their families who we are trying to help out.

    • Great work Guy supporting with this amazing charity.

    • It is Truly wonderful to see this charity making the lives of those less fortunate than ourselves, regain their sparkle and create some very special memories.
The Covid pandemic has hit many charities hard, and it makes me proud to work for a company that has a great “Passion and a big heart” to support this cause.

    • Thanks Guy for highlighting this great initiative from this wonderful charity. Snazaroo has been very pleased to be able to help them in previous years and especially when the original lockdown came. They were creating packs to send to children who could no longer meet up and we were able to help supply them with packets of face painting sticks so that these children could still create fun faces and lots of smiles at home.

    • Thanks for Sharing Guy and well done to Ajita & Olivia so nice to see our unused product help bring some fun and happy memories to children and families that are living with various illnesses.

    • Amazing and well done Guy, Ajita and Olivia, it’s always nice to support activities that bring a smile to people faces! Over The Wall is doing great charity work.

    • Great work all – wonderful to see.

    • Thank you for sharing Guy – absolutely great to see the impact we can help with.

    • Fantastic work all, so glad that the activities could go ahead overcoming all the obstacle’s put in the way. such a good charity.

    • Such a worthy cause and proud to be involved, happy to help in any way Guy

    • Incredible feeling seeing the children smiling and making happy memories in the videos. Amazing work to all that have been involved supporting such a wonderful charity.

    • thank you Guy for ensuring Colart plays it part in the community, for sharing this wonderful story and for prompting the beautiful responses above. As @davidgcolart-com says above, you can’t help but feel proud.

    • A wonderful post – thank you for sharing and well done to everyone involved.

    • Thank you for sharing Guy, what an incredible charity. I am truly proud to be part of such a worthy cause. Great work to everyone involved!

Hi everyone, I hope you are having a lovely start to the festive season!
I wanted to let you know that Elephant Academy has this week launched a drop of new classes for early 2022. We are now offering two formats: workshops and courses.
Workshops are a one-off, two-hour class focusing on an artistic subject or medium. So whether you are wanting to try something new or refresh your skills, the workshops are a great in-depth, tutor-led class. Find out more here – https://elephantacademy.art/product-category/art-workshops/
Courses are a series of classes, ranging from three to eight weeks in length, focusing on a specific medium or artistic reference. Students work closely with tutors to develop their skills, discover contextual art themes and produce unique and independent artworks. Discover more here – https://elephantacademy.art/product-category/art-courses/
We offer something for every level of ability and have removed the term structure we previously ran, so all workshops and courses are run year round. You also have the choice to purchase the class with or without the materials, so if you have supplies at home you can jump straight in and get creative.
We now have over 25 courses and workshops available to purchase on our website and, with 14 new tutors on board, there is a wide variety of classes for all skill levels to choose from. We pride ourselves on creating a fun, engaging and supportive environment, with beginners warmly welcomed.
With prices starting at just £20, do take a look at https://elephantacademy.art/ and don’t forget you can use your Colart staff discount code (COLARTDISCOUNT50) for a fantastic and creative Christmas gift!
If you have any questions about anything, please do message me at briar@elephant.art. We are looking forward to seeing some familiar faces on screen next year.
    Happy holidays!
    Briar
