The Wall 11 months agoWe had beautiful weather for our wellbeing VE Day games and BBQ event on Thursday 8th May, when the Kidderminster team was joined by several of the commercial team and a past employee, Zoe also entertained with some 1940โs classics singing and music.ย We were divided into 5 teams and had some competitive fun with the games, including football and basketball challenges and a special Churchill game.ย ย The Land Girls (Marcia, Glenn, Sharifa, Kelly, Emma and Phil) were the overall winners and Emma Stevens was the highest individual player. ย It was a great fun event while remembering those who made this day possible, and we paid a respectful 2 minutes silence together in a group on the yard.ย The finale was our paper aeroplane flyby challenge, where the competitors launched their ย paper planes from our mezzanine, the furthest plane was winner of the coveted spitfire mug, congratulations to Garry Adams for his winning origami aerodynamics. ย ย Thank you to all who contributed either by organising or taking part.

The Wall 11 months agoLast week we made 3 sessions of Liquitex training in Norway with the artist Robert Rost. Retailers, Professional artists and Hobbyists were invited to each of these 3 sessions by our Norway distributor, who recently launched Liquitex replacing Golden. The participants were very excited to be able to try all the products. There was a 25% discount at our distributorโs partner store which was next to the training location. All participants showed a lot of interest in Liquitex and shopped at the store after the training.

The Wall 11 months agoCOMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT AT WEST SOMERSET COMMUNITY COLLEGE
This week I had the pleasure of attending an Enrichment Career Day at our local College.
I along with 20 other local employers attended the college to interact with their 200 year 10 students to offer them insight into CV writing, interview processes and to hold mock interviews.
We offered each student some tips for CV writing, gave them a mock job interview, spoke to them about our own career journey and what our companies have to offer.
This day was created with the hope of educating and inspire the next generation.
We will hopefully continue to work with the College on potentially offering work experience days and apprentice opportunities in the future.

The Wall 11 months agoThe Winsor & Newton Field Pocket Set has been a consistent top performer in our social media advertising campaigns over the past year, so I finally gave in (a victim of my own advertising!) and decided to try it for myself.
Last week, while walking the West Highland Way in Scotland, I took it along with me try painting some of the beautiful Highland views. It was great to finally take it out and use it en plein air, just as it was so perfectly designed for, and I can definitely say now that I see why it’s become such a favourite among artists!

Millions of tonnes of clothing, shoes and other textiles end up in landfill every year because very little is sent for recycling .
“The current fashion system uses high volumes of non-renewable resources, including petroleum, extracted to produce clothes that are often used only for a short period of time, after which the materials are largely lost to landfill or incineration. “This system puts pressure on valuable resources such as water, pollutes the environment and degrades ecosystems in addition to creating societal impacts on a global scale.” There are good reasons to seek out alternatives to chucking clothes in the bin – globally the fashion industry is responsible for 10% of all greenhouse gas emissions, with textile production alone is estimated to release 1.2 billion tonnes of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere every year. Vast amounts of water are also needed to produce the clothes we wear too and the fashion industry is responsible for 20% of global waste water. At the same time we are buying more clothes than ever – the average consumer now buys 60% more clothing than they did 15 years ago. More than two tonnes of clothing are bought each minute in the UK, more than any other country in Europe. Globally, around 56 million tonnes of clothing are bought each year, and this is expected to rise to 93 million tonnes by 2030 and 160 million tonnes by 2050.
"Reuse. Recycle. Rethink — your clothes deserve a second life, not a landfill."
