The Wall 1 year, 2 months agoTechEx Sustainability Expo – Embracing AI for a Sustainable Future
Yesterday, I had the privilege of attending the Sustainability Expo at TechEx, held at Kensington Olympia with @AjitaChamberlin. With over 7,000 attendees over two days, the event brought together leaders in sustainability, technology, and AI. The insights shared were invaluable, and I had the opportunity to contribute to a panel discussion on how AI and technology can be leveraged to accelerate sustainability action.
The panel session attracted a large audience, and there were some really thought-provoking questions from the crowd, including:
- How do you balance the amount of sustainability data needed for reporting?
- How can sustainability and innovation help drive company culture transformation?
- What’s exciting about the role of AI in sustainability?
- How can consumers engage with sustainability, and what role does AI play in sustainable product data?
- How can companies get started with AI proof of concepts?
It was a great chance to discuss the practical applications of AI in sustainability and share insights on how businesses can begin their journey with AI in this space and also talk about the challenges with sustainability and data.
A special shout-out to @Sanjay, whose recent update to the GLT on AI during our last MPR was very insightful. It was fantastic to see how Colart can further integrate AI into our business, and I’m excited to continue exploring opportunities where AI can drive both sustainability and innovation.
If you’re interested in learning more about how AI can be harnessed for sustainability, i would love to chat about it

Millions of tonnes of clothing, shoes and other textiles end up in landfill every year because very little is sent for recycling .
“The current fashion system uses high volumes of non-renewable resources, including petroleum, extracted to produce clothes that are often used only for a short period of time, after which the materials are largely lost to landfill or incineration. “This system puts pressure on valuable resources such as water, pollutes the environment and degrades ecosystems in addition to creating societal impacts on a global scale.” There are good reasons to seek out alternatives to chucking clothes in the bin – globally the fashion industry is responsible for 10% of all greenhouse gas emissions, with textile production alone is estimated to release 1.2 billion tonnes of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere every year. Vast amounts of water are also needed to produce the clothes we wear too and the fashion industry is responsible for 20% of global waste water. At the same time we are buying more clothes than ever – the average consumer now buys 60% more clothing than they did 15 years ago. More than two tonnes of clothing are bought each minute in the UK, more than any other country in Europe. Globally, around 56 million tonnes of clothing are bought each year, and this is expected to rise to 93 million tonnes by 2030 and 160 million tonnes by 2050.
"Reuse. Recycle. Rethink — your clothes deserve a second life, not a landfill."
