Highlighting Creative Talent: Will Baaske Selected for Colart’s Liquitex x The Yard Residency

Blick Team Member and recent FIT Graduate Embarks on a Month of Artistic Exploration

Liquitex is delighted to announce that Will Baaske, an interdisciplinary painter and recent BFA graduate from the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), has been selected for the Liquitex x The Yard Residency. This one-month residency, hosted at The Yard in the Lower East Side of Manhattan, NYC, will provide Will with the opportunity to explore his creative process using Liquitex’s innovative materials in a collaborative and inspiring environment.

Will’s artistic practice blends abstraction with personal narrative. His unique perspective on art as a means of redefining symbols underscores his ability to create powerful, deeply personal works.

In addition to his academic accomplishments, Will brings practical expertise from his role at Blick, one of Colart’s key retail partners. Working closely with artists, he has developed a rich understanding of diverse mediums, from acrylics to inks to markers and more. This dual perspective—artist and technical advisor—makes him an invaluable participant in the residency and a meaningful connection between Colart, Blick, and the wider artistic community.

“Art is my way of turning tools of change into symbols of resilience and creativity,” Will explained, reflecting on the transformative themes that define his work and how Liquitex products have supported his artistic evolution.

    What the Residency Offers

As part of the Liquitex X The Yard collaboration, the residency provides emerging artists like Will with the resources to experiment, collaborate, and grow:

    • Creative Experimentation: Exploring Liquitex’s full portfolio of acrylics, mediums, and tools in a dedicated studio space.
    • Community Engagement: Connecting with fellow artists at Blick and the wider vibrant NYC art scene at The Yard and more.
    • Artistic Growth: Leveraging feedback sessions with the Liquitex team and contributing insights for future development and plans.

    Synergy with Blick

While the residency is courtesy of Liquitex and The Yard, Will’s role at Blick highlights the synergy between the Liquitex mission to support emerging artists and Blick’s dedication to fostering creativity. His presence at Blick provides a unique opportunity to share his residency experience with customers and colleagues, amplifying its impact and inspiring others in the art community.

“We’re thrilled to see Will’s talent recognized through this residency,” said Sarah Clark, V.P. of Marketing – North America and Global Brand lead- Liquitex Marketing “and proud to support his journey alongside key partners like Blick and The Yard.”

    Stay Connected

Highlights from Will’s residency journey will be shared soon! Stay tuned to witness how his creativity flourishes in this collaborative setting and discover how Liquitex continues to empower artists through partnerships like The Yard Residency.

During the french sales team meeting last week , it was the opportunity to present the new range of Lefranc Bourgeois Flashe Bio-Based which is launched next spring : 16 new colours with a 97% bio-based binder, in a 100% R-PET pot.

To explain all technical details and nurrish the sales team with accurate facts and data, we had the chance to welcome the Colart chemist ingeneer Marion Bach who has strongly worked with Pierre Sanchez on this new range for 18 months : It is a real step in paint to propose this new range of Flashe, using alkyd in the binder and allowing to reach 97% bio-based binder… and always the loved properties of Flashe : matity, multi-surfaces.

Many thanks Marion for this amazing presentation, allowing everyone to understand this technological improvement. Marion will be also on Francfurt Fair to explain this to all clients and visitors.

Thanks to Pierre Sanchez and Sara Brenan to make possible this good work hand in hand with Brand and Sales teams : A super collective work to contribute to the Sustainability path of Colart.
