The Wall 5 months agoOn Friday, October 31st, after almost 6 years of being closed, the Princeton University Art Museum reopened its doors to the public in a newly remodeled building.
The first day opened for a full 24-hours, offering various activities, including public access into the Conservation studios and a Q&A with the conservators.
I learned the Princeton University Art Museum has over 110,000 art pieces/objects in its collection. This new museum displays 5% of its collection, previously only 1% was shown.
I spoke about Winsor & Newton to Chief Conservator Bart Devolder, who focuses on paintings. He is 1 of the 2-person Conservator team. His canvas installation outside of the Conservation studios called “Discoveries on the Backs of Paintings” includes a canvas that states, “Prepared by Winsor & Newton”. He raved about the Winsor & Newton Series 7 brushes and said those are the only brushes he uses.
To read more about the Conservation space, here’s an article Bart Devolder wrote this year: https://artmuseum.princeton.edu/art/stories-perspectives/future-conservation-princeton-university-art-museum
If you’re in the Princeton, New Jersey area, it’s worth checking out this new (free and open to all) museum. There are also other offerings such as open studio hours and workshops/programs that will bring even more art to the masses.
Here’s a short video I put together when I visited: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/r407y0x7otbifwng1k2is/Princeton-University-Art-Museum_Nov-3-2025.MOV?rlkey=s9jfvz47kbypdgtlqsi4yzg2z&st=atg4bmba&dl=0

The Wall 5 months agoI was invited by David Baker to present a prize on behalf of Colart at the weekend at our local Bewdley Arts Festival. Several colleagues helped me to select our winning entry, “Behind The Curtain” pictured below with the extremely talented 14 year old, Nonin Stevenson receiving another of her prizes presented by artist Laura Smith. The artists were given a few hours the previous week to complete their artwork. Nonin’s frame was broken but she repaired it in a way which I feel enhances the entire story of the painting. As a site, Kidderminster DC also took the opportunity to Inspire Every Artist by presenting a small gift pack to all of 13 artists to include paper, a few paints and brushes from our charity aisle to encourage the use of our products. A few of the entrants are pictured below with their packs. (All artists have given their permission to be included in our post.)

Millions of tonnes of clothing, shoes and other textiles end up in landfill every year because very little is sent for recycling .
“The current fashion system uses high volumes of non-renewable resources, including petroleum, extracted to produce clothes that are often used only for a short period of time, after which the materials are largely lost to landfill or incineration. “This system puts pressure on valuable resources such as water, pollutes the environment and degrades ecosystems in addition to creating societal impacts on a global scale.” There are good reasons to seek out alternatives to chucking clothes in the bin – globally the fashion industry is responsible for 10% of all greenhouse gas emissions, with textile production alone is estimated to release 1.2 billion tonnes of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere every year. Vast amounts of water are also needed to produce the clothes we wear too and the fashion industry is responsible for 20% of global waste water. At the same time we are buying more clothes than ever – the average consumer now buys 60% more clothing than they did 15 years ago. More than two tonnes of clothing are bought each minute in the UK, more than any other country in Europe. Globally, around 56 million tonnes of clothing are bought each year, and this is expected to rise to 93 million tonnes by 2030 and 160 million tonnes by 2050.
"Reuse. Recycle. Rethink — your clothes deserve a second life, not a landfill."
