The Wall 1 year, 6 months agoYesterday, September 19th, Colart NA hosted the Board and several GLT members at the Piscataway office.
There was also a Liquitex Brand Engagement session in our office’s break room where Jimmy Leslie led a session on creating a wave painting using the newest Liquitex Bio-Based Heavy Acrylic.
Here is a short video overviewing the day: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/hnfuci9ramowb7hk5bqpn/Colart-NA-Board-and-GLT-Visit-Sept-2024.mp4?rlkey=q0vl0toi8d17kenmykbt5n9tv&st=22jr68qj&dl=0

The Wall 1 year, 6 months agoAnd Manufacturers Village is also home to the Liquitex Residency as many of you already know. The latest artist in residence is the wonderful Jakada Khalfani, who spoke with passion about using more sustainable materials in his work, including here Liquitex recycled canvas and Bio-Based Heavy Acrylic. Thanks team USA it was a fantastic to be part of the visit, getting to see our products in many different stores and then feel the excitement from the artists themselves who use them (and LOVE them) at the Liquitex Residency was a highlight. Topping it off with a visit the Piscataway office and the DC and feeling the Colart values being lived by all we met was a great way to end the trip. …

It’s great to have you back onboard Sara! I know you will be both a great support and also a driver for the progress we need to continue to make….…

The Wall 1 year, 6 months agoWe also had the opportunity with the Board to visit the wonderful Manufacturers Village in East Orange. An old factory that is now home to over 60 artist studios. Some of the artists we visited included the wonderful Christine Romanell (one of her works hangs in our Piscataway office) and Tom Nussbaum.

The Wall 1 year, 6 months agoWe’ve also have the privilege of hosting the Colart Board for a Board Meeting today in Piscataway, as well as several GLT members. Yesterday, as well as a presentation on the North American market, our people, customers, consumers and brand building activations we visited several stores. It was great to see all our successes in the Michaels’ ‘Art Test’ store in Mount Olive, NJ…currently rolling out from 50 to an additional 250 stores – and chain wide soon too! We also met the Blick CEO again at the Blick store in Paramus NJ. Our owner, Jenny, was really impressed with the strong progress made on our instore branding and merchandising at Blick especially – she remembered what it looked like last time she visited stores and said the difference was like night and day!

well done team NA!…

Thank you Jane – it really was a great team effort. I felt super proud of all in the Colart team in North America of the fact that we really did put our best foot forward. Outside of the usual and expected ‘logistics’ to organise for such a trip though, one of the greatest joys was, in many ways, we were just showing the GLT and Board what we do every day….…

The Wall 1 year, 6 months agoIt’s been a busy week in North America. We started with Romain, Gail and I visiting Blick stores and meeting with their CEO. It was great to see Liquitex Bio-Based Heavy Acrylic in a store finally…. We also had the opportunity to visit their small Utrecht paint plant in Brooklyn, with quite an interesting view of old factories and warehouses (probably soon to be multi-million dollar apartments) with a view over to the Statue of Liberty in the distance!

Millions of tonnes of clothing, shoes and other textiles end up in landfill every year because very little is sent for recycling .
“The current fashion system uses high volumes of non-renewable resources, including petroleum, extracted to produce clothes that are often used only for a short period of time, after which the materials are largely lost to landfill or incineration. “This system puts pressure on valuable resources such as water, pollutes the environment and degrades ecosystems in addition to creating societal impacts on a global scale.” There are good reasons to seek out alternatives to chucking clothes in the bin – globally the fashion industry is responsible for 10% of all greenhouse gas emissions, with textile production alone is estimated to release 1.2 billion tonnes of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere every year. Vast amounts of water are also needed to produce the clothes we wear too and the fashion industry is responsible for 20% of global waste water. At the same time we are buying more clothes than ever – the average consumer now buys 60% more clothing than they did 15 years ago. More than two tonnes of clothing are bought each minute in the UK, more than any other country in Europe. Globally, around 56 million tonnes of clothing are bought each year, and this is expected to rise to 93 million tonnes by 2030 and 160 million tonnes by 2050.
"Reuse. Recycle. Rethink — your clothes deserve a second life, not a landfill."

fabulous Maria! thank you for capturing the event so that we can all feel part of it. Jimmy’s session looked great fun!…
Thank you, Maria – this is captures things beautifully.
It was a great few days Jane, and the day in Piscataway with the Board was a fantastic cumulation.
Funny side story…..I didn’t realise until my wife Sarh pointed it out to me when I got home that evening, but the shirt I was wearing for the day had wave designs all over it (inspired by The Great Wave off Kanagawa by Hokusai)…Jimmy must have been sending me subliminal messages!!??…
Great job on this @maria-gottfriedcolart-com !…
