Knowledge Transfer Partnership: CSM X Colart
As part of the Knowledge Transfer Partnership between Central Saint Martins (CSM) and Colart, CSM were asked to think about unmet artists needs and the impact of digital technology on Fine Art Practice.
In the past few years, there has been an increase in artists and curators using Virtual Reality to make or show work. In an environment where space is at a premium, and producing or exhibiting physical work is a challenge, is Virtual Reality a solution? And is its increasingly popularity a forbearer of things to come?
What happened during the workshop?
With this question in mind, CSM partnered with Elephant West to run a Virtual Reality workshop on May 28th for ten CSM students. The day began with a discussion between the students and Becca Pelly-Fry (Head Curator at Elephant West) about the impact of Virtual reality the gallery space. The concerns raised by the discussion were then explored in a hands-on exercise where the students made their physical artworks into virtual ones using a DIY photogrammetry process.
Helena de Pulford (KTP Associate) facilitated this event and recorded insights and ideas that were raised during the workshop for Colart products.

Great to see that we start to push the bounderies beyond our classic “art remit”.
Also very encouraging to see the collaboration with our newest family member Elephant. Great work @helenadcolart-com, @rebeccapcolart-com and everybody else who supported this!
