The John Moores Painting Prize brings together the best in contemporary British painting of the moment. This prize provides a platform for artists to inspire, disrupt and challenge the British painting art scene today.
Emerging Artist Prize supported by Winsor & Newton
This year, the UK team, under the Winsor & Newton brand is honoured to be associated with the prestigious John Moores Painting Prize awards and is sponsoring a new category; The Emerging Artist Prize.
Aimed at graduates and artists early in their career, the winner will receive £2,500 plus premium Winsor & Newton art materials of up to the same value. In addition, part of the Emerging Artist Prize is a residency and open studio event, along with mentoring to support the winner’s artistic development.
There’s still time to enter the John Moores Painting Prize 2020.
Call for entries to the UK’s longest established painting competition runs until 24 March, with the exhibition opening at Liverpool’s Walker Art Gallery in September.
The First Prize winner will receive £25,000 and a solo display at the Walker Gallery, with four further prizes of £2,500.
This year’s jury
Judging the entries this year are artists Hurvin Anderson, Michelle Williams Gamaker, Alison Goldfrapp and Gu Wenda, as well as journalist and author, Jennifer Higgie. The winners will join the likes of David Hockney, Peter Doig, Sarah Pickstone, Sir Peter Blake and Rose Wylie who are previous recipients of the prestigious prize that in 2018 celebrated 60 years.
