Liquitex Honors Black History Month

Throughout the month of February, Liquitex shared a few initiatives via website and social channels in support of Black History Month and the ongoing efforts to support Black artists.

Afrik’art Festival

Liquitex was proud to support the Afrik’art Festival in the Montpellier region of Southern France, offering an opportunity for artists from the Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Congo, Benin, Burkina Faso, Tunisia, and Guinea to present their work and share their experiences. This festival culminated into the 28th Africa-France Summit, showcasing local African artists through a series of art exhibitions, residencies, fashion shows, live performances and workshops. Liquitex provided materials to support the residency series, including Liquitex Basics, Acrylic Marker and Spray Paint. The brand looks forward to witnessing the evolution of this festival, in hopes it becomes an annual mainstay in the Occitanie region.

Manufacturer’s Village Black Lives Matter Mural

It takes a village to make change happen. In 2021, Liquitex proudly supported a huge mural project in East Orange, New Jersey, at the site of the Just Imagine Residency program in Manufacturer’s Village. Each commissioned artist created their own letter, offering a look into their world in hopes of spreading a message of community, strength and hope. The mural boasts 9,000 square feet of vibrant colors and details that make this mural truly remarkable. Liquitex Professional Soft Body, Spray Paint and Mediums were used to create the mural, and the project was a collaborative effort between the artists at Manufacturer’s Village, the Arts Council of East Orange, Pink Dragon Artist Syndicate and community fundraising and support.

Live Interview with Black Lives Matter Muralist Malcom Rolling

To wrap up Black History Month, Senior Global Brand Manager Katelyn Wagner went live on the Liquitex Instagram account with muralist Malcom Rolling. Malcom was a driving force behind the Black Lives Matter mural, leading a group of 16 local artists to create the stunning, powerful mural proudly on display in his hometown.  Since the age of 9, Malcom evolved as an artist, discovering his passion for street art, murals, graphic design and animation under the guidance of his mentor Andre Scott Patterson. The pair discussed Malcom’s experience leading and executing the project, the challenges of working on an outdoor mural, and general mural painting.

“I do a lot of work that’s based in social justice, but this particular project was in my own backyard and blocks away from elementary schools I went to. To be able to do something in a space I call home is a no-brainer,” said Malcom.

Moving forward, Liquitex hopes to continue celebrating diversity within the artist community with engaging conversation and content initiatives. In March, stay tuned for live conversations in support of Women’s History Month.
