Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI)
Why does DEI Matter?
Research has shown that a diverse workforce can help boost a company’s creativity. People from similar backgrounds are likely to have similar opinions and ideas, but the more diverse the workforce, the more likely there are going to be a wider variety of ideas.
Creating a fair and equitable workplace is not only the right thing to do; it is fundamental to superior and sustainable business performance. The development of our DEI Manifesto in the previous year has enabled the creation of DEI Councils across all regions including the UK, Europe, North America and China for this year.
Each Council has developed their own regional DEI vision, mission and key work streams with a core focus to develop an inclusive culture throughout the company.

Diversity Pay Report 2023
Through our DEI councils we have a broad focus on all aspects of diversity and one of our measured commitments is in relation to gender. For this reason, we publish the gender pay gap analysis each year and we are pleased to present the data for 2023: our fifth year of publication. This analysis has been conducted across three regions China, Europe and North America.
Transparent communication of results and using these results and insights to take action is core to our plan.
The data shows a positive shift favoring women in Europe and North America, where they make up 44% of the upper quartile. However, China saw a slight decline compared to 2022. Europe improved by 2% in mean hourly pay, while North America and China dipped.
Notably, there were significant improvements in mean and median bonus pay across all regions, largely due to zero bonuses at senior leadership levels.
Yet, there's still a gender imbalance in top positions, especially directors and above. While progress has been made, we acknowledge more work is needed. Our commitment to closing the gender pay gap remains steadfast. We'll focus on succession planning, nurturing internal talent, and enhancing external talent acquisition.
We value your thoughts about these results and ask you to send any comments to Chief People Officer, Jane Beeston or via your local HR business partner. This will help us delve deeper into the analysis that will be conducted on an ongoing basis.
We create this report across three regions. To access each region click in the appropriate button below.
