Martyn Symes marks his 10 years with Colart!

From the beginning of Martyn's journey with Colart, he set out to explore new industries after years working in the health and beauty category, intending to stay for just a couple of years. However, as many of us know, sometimes the right opportunity can spark a passion that lasts far beyond initial expectations. And that's exactly what happened for Martyn. His initial curiosity turned into a deep love for the Fine Art category, and 10 years later, he is still here, more passionate than ever.

As the Fine Art Channel Director, Martyn's leadership has been integral to Colart's ongoing transformation into a brand-led business. His passion, quality, and commitment have supported the UK business while also making a lasting impact on the Fine Art sector, where he works with a wide range of customers, from small, owner-managed businesses to professional artists.

Reflecting on a Decade of Growth

In reflecting on his time at Colart, Martyn says,

“When I started to write this I thought… WOW, 10 years isn’t that amazing! Then I recalled just before the new year the flurry of similar articles commenting on many other people with long service, Stephanie and Josh with 10 years, Michelle and Arnaud with 15 years, Guenael with 30 years, Fran with 40 years… And these are just the few that I mention, there are many, many more! I think this articulates relatively well what Colart is all about and how/why I have made it to my 10-year anniversary.”

Martyn goes on to explain that his decision to join Colart was initially driven by a desire to explore a new challenge in an unfamiliar industry.

“I thought I would ‘try’ out something different for a couple of years and then move on again. But somehow I am still here, still hungry for success and even more passionate for a category that I had no clue about before I joined."

A Passion for the Fine Art Community

Throughout his career at Colart, Martyn has worked across many commercial accounts, but it is the Fine Art category that truly excites him. He’s deeply committed to supporting the growth of small, owner-managed businesses within this space. For Martyn, it’s not just about selling products - it’s about ensuring these businesses thrive and that art is accessible to as many people as possible.

He is inspired by the passion and determination of the customers he works with that live and breathe our products and the ones that make a difference - from the first time a budding artist crosses their threshold to the professional back for the items they always buy.

But Martyn also credits his colleagues for keeping him engaged over the years:

"the inspiring and passionate people I have worked with that lift and motivate you when you talk about work. Colart has been and still is blessed with so many of these."

Looking Ahead

As Martyn marks his 10th anniversary, his commitment to Colart remains as strong as ever.

"Hopefully these colleagues and friends will remain with me, inspiring more within the category, for another 10 or more!"
