Sustainability & Innovation Team Visits Beckers
Insights from Our Sustainability & Innovation Team's Visit to Beckers
This B Corp Month, as we celebrate our certification and the progress we're making toward becoming a force for good, it’s the perfect time to reflect on a recent visit by our Sustainability and Innovation team – Sara, Ajita, Pierre, and Cris – to our sister company, Beckers, at their FutureLab facility in Liverpool, UK.
During the visit, the team gained invaluable insights into Beckers’ innovative, sustainability-driven initiatives and engaged in meaningful discussions on how both companies can continue advancing the pursuit of a greener, more sustainable future.
The team was warmly welcomed by Gavin Bown, Chief Technical Officer, and Tom Shields, FutureLab Manager from Beckers.
Let’s learn about some of their key highlights and learnings from this experience...
Exploring Sustainable Innovation at Beckers
The visit began with a comprehensive overview of Beckers' sustainability efforts, particularly their work on sustainable innovation. The team had the chance to meet the FutureLab Chemists, who shared their cutting-edge approaches to solving environmental challenges.
Beckers’ focus on Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) capabilities and the Beckers Sustainability Index provided the team with a deep dive into their strategies for sustainable product development.
Discussions on Data-Driven Sustainability
During the visit, the teams engaged in in-depth discussions on several crucial topics. These included the role of data-driven decision-making in sustainability efforts, how Beckers navigates evolving regulatory landscapes, and the critical importance of R&D in advancing shared sustainability goals.
Beckers’ commitment to their net-zero transition and Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi) was particularly inspiring, highlighting the alignment between their innovation efforts and broader business objectives. This commitment resonates strongly with our own recent announcement at Colart, where we proudly became the first company in the art materials industry to commit to Science-Based Targets. Remind yourself of our commitment here.
Inspiration for Colart’s Sustainable Product Scoring Framework
One of the most valuable outcomes of the visit was the inspiration it provided for shaping Colart’s own Sustainable Product Scoring framework.
Our team gained fresh insights into how these sustainability practices can be integrated into Colart’s innovation and new product development processes moving forward. These learnings will play a pivotal role in advancing Colart’s sustainability initiatives.
A Continued Partnership for a Greener Future
Pierre, our Innovation & Development (I&D) Manager at Le Mans Maison de l'Innovation, expressed his gratitude for the visit, saying,
“I am thankful for the expertise and openness of the Beckers team. It was a pleasure to see how their innovation efforts directly contribute to their net-zero goals, and I look forward to continuing our collaboration as we work together toward a more sustainable future.”
Stay tuned for more updates on our ongoing collaboration and sustainability initiatives!
