Certification: The Story of High Standards in Manufacturing at Colart
Our manufacturing sites are the heartbeat of our business. There are many challenges to ensuring smooth operations, including regulations and laws that we must adhere to. And naturally, our sites are across many regions and manufacture vastly different product items. Compare our Minehead site in Somerset, manufacturing Snazaroo products, to our Lowestoft site in Suffolk, with their brush-making speciality. Or our Le Mans operation, manufacturing high-quality products for Winsor & Newton or Lefranc Bourgeois compared to our vital operation at CTAM producing mass volumes.
Despite these differences, we strive to ensure that all our sites are efficient and deliver quality products without damaging the environment. That we are best in class.
One such measure that ensures we maintain our high standards is through certifications, validating quality, sustainability, and manufacturing best practices.
To follow are some of the certifications awarded to Colart.
“ISO standards are internationally agreed by experts
Think of them as a formula that describes the best way of doing something.
It could be about making a product, managing a process, delivering a service, or supplying materials – standards cover a huge range of activities.
Standards are the distilled wisdom of people with expertise in their subject matter and who know the needs of the organizations they represent – people such as manufacturers, sellers, buyers, customers, trade associations, users or regulators”.
- Quality management standards to help work more efficiently and reduce product failures. (ISO9001)

ISO Standards mean that consumers can have confidence that their products are safe, reliable and of good quality. Scheduled audits are conducted to ensure that we maintain our standards. The benefits from auditing certainly out way the time and resources needed to complete them.
FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certification verifies the paper and wood that we buy is sourced from sustainable forests. FSC’s vision states “the true value of forests is recognized and fully incorporated into society worldwide. FSC is the leading catalyst and defining force for improved forest management and market transformation, shifting the global forest trend toward sustainable use, conservation, restoration, and respect for all”.
Colart has a group certification which is audited every year. Certification allows us to label FSC on our products.
