"The time has come," the Walrus said,
"To talk of many things:
Of shoes and ships and sealing-wax
Of cabbages and kings,
And why the sea is boiling hot
And whether pigs have wings."
A message from Debbie
This is a line from the poem ‘The Walrus and the Carpenter’ by Lewis Carroll.
Why the quote, you may ask? Well, I have felt much like Alice in Wonderland while working in the magical world of art and colour such is Colart and indeed, the time has come!
After almost 23 years, retirement seems to have taken me by surprise! Where has all that time gone? My journey began in the 80’s when I worked in the sales department of Reckitt and Colman—as it was known then- and after six years living in Portugal, returned home and was lucky enough to return to the factory working in quality control.
Having lived very close to the factory my family were very aware of Winsor and Newton and I had literally grown up using the products which were cherished gifts for Christmas and birthdays. I remember collecting the little boxes of drawing ink, buying one a week with my pocket money. The beautiful designs captivated me, although I was unsure what exactly each magical box contained-- though soon to be discovered. It almost feels like destiny ensured I would eventually work for the company who produced them! The rest is history.
They say that if you love your job, you never work a day in your life and this has certainly been the case for me. I have made lifelong friends and been privileged to work with amazing and wonderful people. I wish you all great success and joy in all you do. Though I am moving to be nearer my family, I will not be off the grid and I welcome any correspondence, news and simple banter, should you wish to do so.
