Mark Cann celebrates his 25th year with Colart!

We are pleased to mark a significant milestone for Mark after a career of passion for surface coatings.

 

Mark began his career at 16 with Croda Inks, balancing work and further education through day release at Langley College. He achieved ‘A’ levels, a City and Guilds in ink technology, and gained experience at the London College of Printing.

After a brief period honing his communication and caregiving skills at Hillingdon Hospital, Mark returned to the surface coatings industry, a subject that he loves. He earned an HNC in chemistry and a substantial portion of his career—25 years—has been with Colart, where he has left an indelible mark. Serving many years as an Innovation and Development Chemist, he has shaped numerous projects before taking the helm of the TCE department over the past eight years. His role has allowed him to interact with nearly every aspect of the business, offering his technical insight and contributing to the consumer care team with his valued wisdom.

Mark's early responsibilities at Colart included the crucial transition of Liquitex acrylics from the USA to the UK—a testament to his meticulous and innovative approach. His work has since expanded across various artists' ranges and media, including renowned names like Liquitex, W&N, and Reeves. Beyond his technical contributions, Mark has cherished the opportunities to build relationships with artists, professional organizations, and schools. Engaging with these communities and supporting their growth remains one of Mark’s most treasured elements of his role.

Mark says:

"Where did those 25 years go?! I really enjoy doing what I do especially the last few years in TCE as it gave me the opportunity to speak with artists which is the favourite part of my job.  Our strength really is this combination of art and science"
