New Distribution Centre Opening in Piscataway

May 23, 2019 | |

On Wednesday, 15th May, Colart inaugurated our new Distribution Centre in Piscataway. Dennis van Schie, CEO, said “A big moment in our Colart history which I am proud to have been part of”. Paul Schrotti, Lindéngruppen’s CEO, said «Colart should really be proud of this milestone and going forward the new DC holds good promises in store».

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR THE BUSINESS?

The construction of the new building started in Q2 2018 and opened last week. The new building is about 150,000 sq feet, which is double the previous two old Distribution Centres and offers much better flow and room to support our growth.

Colart will be saving over $490,000 on rent annually, and the new building helps us reducing our freight cost and easing the order process for our customers. It will help us increase commercial opportunities and the consolidation of orders.

The design of the new distribution centre allows Colart to organise the storage capacity by area and provides flexibility, reduces reliance on mechanical failure and introduces a forward-thinking philosophy for picking.

Sustainability remains core to the design and future of the site, in line with our operational objectives and values, setting our standards for the future. The new building is more sustainable and energy efficient: warmer in winter, cooler in summer, with motion activated LED lights and overall lower running costs.

The new space in Piscataway is creating a work place that has a balance of cultural wellbeing with world-class operational efficiencies.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN FOR OUR EMPLOYEES?

Mark Barratt, Chief Operations Officer, says “this new workspace revolves around empowering staff to work where, when and how they choose, with maximum flexibility and access to the necessary tools and technology, enabling them to perform at an optimum level”.

The Piscataway employees now benefit from more meeting rooms and collaborative spaces compared to previously, as well as a larger break-room so that they can mingle – important for wellbeing! There are two dedicated planogram room and training room, and two artists’ studios.
