Princeton University Art Museum reopened after 6 years closed.
On Friday, October 31st, after almost 6 years of being closed, the Princeton University Art Museum reopened its doors to the public in a newly remodeled building.
The first day opened for a full 24-hours, offering various activities, including public access into the Conservation studios and a Q&A with the conservators.
Maria Gottfried learned the Princeton University Art Museum has over 110,000 art pieces/objects in its collection. This new museum displays 5% of its collection, previously only 1% was shown.
She spoke about Winsor & Newton to Chief Conservator Bart Devolder, who focuses on paintings. He is 1 of the 2-person Conservator team. His canvas installation outside of the Conservation studios called “Discoveries on the Backs of Paintings” includes a canvas that states, “Prepared by Winsor & Newton”. He raved about the Winsor & Newton Series 7 brushes and said those are the only brushes he uses.
To read more about the Conservation space, here’s an article Bart Devolder wrote this year: Princeton University Art Museum
If you’re in the Princeton, New Jersey area, it’s worth checking out this new (free and open to all) museum. There are also other offerings such as open studio hours and workshops/programs that will bring even more art to the masses.
