The Autumn/Winter 2021 issue of Elephant is here!

September 10, 2021 | |

We are delighted to announce the brand-new edition of Elephant magazine, beautifully designed and full of interviews with everyone from world-famous artists to exciting emerging talents. The Autumn/Winter 2021 issue is available exclusively through Elephant Kiosk to pre-order.

This is Elephant’s second print magazine in biannual format, featuring legendary musician and artist Laurie Anderson on the main release cover and world-renowned British artist John Akomfrah on the special release issue.

What can you find in the new issue…?

The issue features in-depth interviews with John Akomfrah, Ayana V Jackson, Laurie Anderson, Haegue Yang and Larry Achaimpong. Elephant also welcomes back the three returning columnists: Toyin Ojih Odutola has created a magnificently rendered original artwork and text, exploring the notion of home; Charlotte Jansen questions the connection between creativity and raising children; and Jayden Ali discusses the city of Liverpool, from its history as a slave port, through the 20th-century violence of WWII, Thatcher’s ‘managed-decline’ and the Hillsborough disaster, and on to a hopeful possible future.

In State of a Nation, Glasgow-based photographer Furmaan Ahmed visits six young artists working across Scotland and England. They share their first-hand experiences of living and making art in the UK, interrogating ideas of Britishness, belonging, stereotypes and stigmas.

And in our Portfolio section, Yan Wang Preston shares her recent, sublime photography project from England’s moors: With Love. From an Invader evokes the powerful, primal connection that humans have with the land, and utilises the imported rhododendron flower to connect Britain’s colonial past with the artist’s motherland.

The global release of the magazine

It will hit the shelves on 27th September 2021, and we are planning window takeovers again at key bookstores. Pick your issue up at Elephant Space. You can read more about the issue at elephant.art, and watch this space for more over the next few weeks...

The editorial team has done an absolutely amazing job on this issue, and it has an even cleaner, punchier look and feel than the first biannual.
