The What
I have noticed advent calendars have moved on since the days of just chocolate and there are many variations offering items such as beauty products, Harry Potter items, make up, drinks, soaps etc.
My idea is to create a Branded advent calendar for 2022 or 2023. This would be aimed at either adults with our premium brands or starter pack for a younger market with the Elephant brand.
Some of the Premium brands such as Dior, Molten Brown, Armani charge a fortune for the calendar. Why don’t we tap into this market?
The Why
It would just be a different gift offering. Not sure our competitors have one or indeed an art calendar exists. Its a unique gift for someone.
The How
See if we have any market research and if any of the brands are interested and would it fit in with portfolio of products

Does indeed sound like a very nice gifting idea Interested to see how the other premium brands have approached it and what sort of items they put in their calendars. I guess items would have to be fairly modest in size due to constraints of advent calendar format.
the difficulty I could see here is the extra effort it takes in order to manufacture vs the short period of time we can actually sell the product + the compatability of the items in the calendar. If I like Dior, chances are that I like all of what they do. If I like Cadburry, chances are that I will eat all the chocolate in there. But for art materials I usually have a technique I enjoy (watercolour for example) and therefore would be specific about what I’d like to get from my calendar that delivers actual value.
But it is an interesting idea and great gifting opportunity. Happy to pick it up Harsa!
I love this idea and also adore (aka have developed a bit of an obsession with) beauty advent calendars – so there may be learnings we can take from the premium beauty world here e.g. some brand do 12 day calendars, with different ‘box’ sizes so we could mostly use sample size products mostly with perhaps a full size gift for the 25th. With our extensive range of colour, surfaces and tools this could be really exciting and I imagine a wonderful gift for any art enthusiast to receive.
Love this idea – for the art materials-junkie/ hobbyist segment this would be so fun!!
Great idea, which brand/product development teams should follow up on. In local markets like DACH that kind of advent calendars become more and more of a standard. From my perspective it does not make sense to have a product each day like a half pan for watercolours, but rather having a dedicated set and having an idea per day for what you can use it – this we already have seen noumerous times in our local market. For example having a dedicated watercolour box with colours choosen by somebody who is very influencial including a brush, a paperblock and a advent calendar with tutorials each day (via QR codes). Ideally we could have that kind of a set also dedicated to WN designers gouache – as the trend becomes bigger and bigger and to be leading here instead of lacking a couple of years of sales compared to other competitors who might be more agile. Happy to asisst with more input from local markets if needed!
Great idea Harsa. I was mulling this over too – maybe as a test and learn project. But they are unlikely to have a low price-point 50-60euros, more like 120euros+. There were a lot of printers displaying these type of advent calendars at Olympia Packaging Exhibition, ranging in price from 6euros to 60euros per calendar + cost of our products + labour time + factory overheads etc.. For example – W&N Tate Sets 2 ‘rigid shoe-boxes + vac forms’ cost roughly 3-4euros each empty. We then have to cost for 24 products in the calendar.
