I’ve been interested in podcasting as a listener since 2013 and as a creator since 2017, and it’s given some amazing experience and opportunities. <\/p>\n

Please note that the topics of discussion, both True Crime and other, do fairly regularly stray into NSFW territory, as does the language – please do not listen to in hearing distance of coworkers, small children and particularly impressionable pets.<\/p>\n

Podcasting is a form of media that has exploded in popularity in the last decade. It’s accessibility in comparison to most other forms of media, to both listeners and creators, have given rise to a great number of productions covering a wide variety of topics.<\/h4>\n

History<\/h4>\n

With a cocreator, I have previously released a horror-comedy miniseries, as well as a True Crime podcast that we recently decided to bring to a close after four years, 105 episodes and 30,000+ downloads. We’re currently in the planning stages of a new project which will be about retelling scary stories, folklore and urban legends – much more cheerful!<\/p>\n

As podcasting has been a hobby, we often have extremely low budget and other resources, often joking that shoestring budgets are for people who can afford shoestrings. Therefore we have been totally self managed, handling research, recording, editing, promotion and networking. Fortunately the podcasting community is a kind one that is often willing to forgive occasionally shaky audio!<\/p>\n

There’s been some great experiences along the way, meeting other British creators such as the teams behind the fiction podcast The Magnus Archives and fellow True Crime creators Red Handed. We were also lucky enough to be invited to the press night of Witness for the Prosecution on Southbank in 2019.<\/p>\n

Applicability<\/h4>\n

After the creation of the Colart Thinktank, I suggested that the company consider a podcast, which contributed to the creation of Tork Time<\/a>, the internal Colart podcast. I was happy to share some thoughts with the team on equipment and technique and have been delighted to see it carried forward. I have also been able to apply my experience with recording to creating Colart Academy videos, as well as the instructional videos used by consumers accessing the B2B websites.<\/p>\n
