Moments of Inspiration
This week Dennis spoke of two moments of inspiration:
- The Colart Academy course Resilience During Times of Stress where he mentioned how the elearning videos had been curated in an impactful and simple way. Lessons on how to deal with stress, understanding your inner voice and working on your posture for public speaking were some of the topics he highlighted. - The London Art Fair which Dennis described as "a good time meeting artists and seeing an overwhelmingly amount of beautiful mainly contemporary art". In particular he spoke about his admiration for 92 year old artist Frank Auerbach and a photographic portrait he has become attached to (see image opposite). Business Update
In Dennis's business update, he told us that January was "off to a good start", meeting the budget and giving everyone in the business the confidence, energy and reasons to celebrate. Additionally, we learnt that the UK and US are ahead of their original plan, Europe and close to what they'd thought they would deliver. International/China is somewhat behind but after a fantastic December plus with £400K "stuck in funds" in Le Mans.
For further updates on budgets, be sure to read CFO Jonathan Spight's article last week, Finalised Performance Results Finalised for 2022. And a reminder that monthly finance updates are available by accessing the business dashboard which you can view by clicking here.
He informed us of the most recent Monthly Performance Review (MPR) meeting last week. He reminded us that MPRs as conducted monthly with a GLT and form a structured agenda with a solid action list. It is an opportunity to update and analyse performance.
The key takeouts from the last MPR included:
- Brand Preference Study. More communication to come on this; however, this is an in-depth study that measures the health of our brands.
- Deep analysis with an external agency in Le Man around "what does it take to make our biggest site carbon neutral". The research concluded that financially, it would take 14M Euros. Therefore, to achieve carbon neutrality, we need to consider alternative options such as;
- What does the future of the factory look like?
- How can we get subsidies from France that will support our journey to carbon neutrality?
- Are these different ways to stage our investments?
- What are the offsetting strategies?
