Charbonnel boutique unveils a new decor!
Founded in 1862 by a Parisian chemist, and located at the foot of Notre-Dame specialising in art paper, the Charbonnel boutique quickly attracted famous painters such as Pissarro, Renoir, Degas, Manet and Toulouse-Lautrec.
When François Charbonnel opened his boutique he was driven by a pioneering spirit and strong scientific expertise that quickly made a reputation for his art paper, even beyond the Paris borders. With the arrival of photography, the artists of his time began to discover lithographic processes and needed specialised supplies: the floors, inks and varnishes newly created by Charbonnel were then a huge success! With this success came loyal customers such as Picasso, Chagall, Dali, Klee... Now, more than 150 years after its founding, the boutique continues to supply inks and backgrounds for engraving and lithography, as well as materials for art restoration, gilding, conservation and fresco painting.
Today Charbonnel still remains the international reference for art printing and adorned with a new décor to pay tribute to Notre-Dame which will soon reopen its doors to the public (on December 7 and 8).
The Lefranc Bourgeois team asked two talented and renowned artists to propose their creations in connection with this historic event. Corinne Lepeytre, an engraver, and Jérôme Rasto, a street artist, entered the world of the monument and were inspired. On the façade, Jérôme Rasto creates a dialogue between Charbonnel and the stained glass windows of Notre-Dame-de-Paris: the west rose takes up the signs of the zodiac associated with the trades, as well as the vices and virtues. Inside, the series "Notre-Dame sur le zinc" by Corinne Lepeytre joins the walls of Charbonnel: the works play on the effects of reflection and the breathtaking view of the cathedral.
So if you are visiting Paris, take the opportunity to rediscover Notre-Dame from a new angle whilst enjoying our Charbonnel Boutique!
