Employee Discount

November 7, 2019 | | | 3 comments

The Think Tank, launched last month, is a great platform for anyone to bring new ideas and suggestions to the table. One such idea from Lucy Franklin (Minehead) was to allow our people to buy our products at a discount on our branded websites.

Why a code on our websites cannot be put in place

Whilst this is of course a great idea that would align the local mechanisms that already exist for buying discounted products, there are a couple of challenges that we cannot overcome at this point that make it impossible to harmonise the employee discount globally:

  • there are differences in local taxation legislation (per country)
  • because we have regional websites (e.g. Liquitex has 1 website for the US and one for the whole ‘rest of the world’) it is difficult to align discount coding.

Further local communication

On this basis and knowing that our people may not be aware of the local mechanisms that apply, the local HR teams will be reminding everyone locally about the discounts and how to buy the products.

This communication will take place over the next few weeks so that purchases can be made before Christmas for our budding artists!

  1. It is very disappointing that in this modern world, as a company, we cannot implement such a simple system.
I would be very interested to have a little more information on the reasons why this is not possible, as I do not understand the reasons given.

In addition – The ‘Think Tank’ is a great idea but it would be nice if the originator of the suggestion was given direct feedback, when a decision has been made.

    Thank you

  2. Hi Lucy,
Thanks for submitting your idea on the Think Tank.
This topic was discussed extensively in the past two months or so (even before you suggested it on the Think Tank), and we tried very hard to harmonise the employee discounts globally. It is not easy to implement a single code to accommodate the tax liabilities in all countries.
We will keep on looking at this over the next few months to see if a solution can be found for the future – and we will keep you updated.
    Thank you!
